Hello everyone,

I recently purchased the IKEA Hemnes wardrobe and am now facing the challenge of assembling it as efficiently as possible without too much physical effort. The instructions are quite detailed, but I’m wondering if there are specific tools or aids that actually make the assembly easier?

I’m thinking of things like good screwdrivers, cordless drills with special bits, or perhaps less common tools that have proven useful.

Has anyone had experience assembling Hemnes furniture and can share helpful tips or recommended tools that mainly reduce the time required or make the assembly safer?

I appreciate any constructive advice!

A cordless screwdriver with adjustable torque is really helpful to avoid over-tightening screws. Also, a slim Phillips bit tip ensures a good grip on the screws. Otherwise, a good screwdriver is often sufficient.

Great question! At first, I was also a bit intimidated by the large IKEA furniture, but I can tell you, a cordless drill really makes it a breeze! And if you have a small rubber mallet handy, it helps to fit the joints cleanly! Go for it, it’s going to be awesome!

That sounds reasonable, especially because of the torque. Are there any specific recommendations on the best type of battery for such a project? Is it better to keep the torque setting constant or vary it?

How much force should you apply to avoid causing any damage? I definitely don’t want to scratch or splinter the wood.

I know the feeling well—having some respect for a project like this at the start, especially if you don’t assemble furniture every day!

Regarding force: I would recommend using the rubber mallet very gently, just to press wooden parts together softly. It’s better to check more often if everything fits rather than forcing it and risking damage.

As for the battery: I use an 18-volt battery with adjustable torque, which gives me enough flexibility when I need more or less power. This also helps prevent over-tightening and protects the connections.

A ratchet with the appropriate bits can be helpful in tight spaces where the cordless drill doesn’t fit well. This allows you to turn screws more easily and gives you better control.
