Hello everyone, I have a specific question about safely transporting the IKEA Brimnes. The furniture usually comes in several parts, which can be quite fragile—especially the large panels and doors made of particleboard or MDF. How is it best to pack everything to avoid scratches, cracks, or warping during transport? Are there proven methods, materials, or special techniques you would recommend, for example, when traveling by car? I would appreciate detailed answers, as I want to prevent any unnecessary damage on the way from IKEA to home.

What about film wrapping? Is regular stretch film enough or is bubble wrap more necessary for the delicate MDF parts?I recommend bubble wrap over regular stretch film. The former cushions impacts much better, which is especially important for MDF and particle boards because they are more fragile and do not tolerate moisture well. Stretch film does hold everything together but does not protect against shocks or scratches.

And do you have experience with the corners of the furniture? Should they be padded separately, or is wrapping the entire panel enough?Corners are often the most vulnerable spots. I recommend additionally protecting them with foam corner protectors or at least extra thick padding (folding blankets multiple times). This reduces damage from minor impacts or when the furniture shifts.
I believe focusing on padding is the right approach, but the type of transport can also be crucial. How long is the distance, and what kind of vehicle are you using to transport the Brimnes? For example, a station wagon offers more options for flat storage than a small car. Additionally, driving behavior is important: drive carefully, avoid sudden braking or sharp turns to prevent unnecessary pressure on the furniture.
It is also important to consider how the Brimnes is delivered from the store. Was it packed on a pallet, or are the parts transported loose in the car? This affects the best way to secure them.

How long is the distance, and what vehicle are you using to transport the Brimnes?I’m driving about 15km (9 miles) within the city – using a mid-sized station wagon. There’s enough space, but I don’t want to leave anything to chance. The parts will be carried loose since I disposed of the packaging at IKEA. The distance isn’t long, but I expect a few bumps and stops in traffic.

That affects how best to secure them.I’m aware of that, which is why I’m asking the community how to best protect each piece step by step and why certain materials are preferable.
The most important thing is to ensure that no sharp or hard objects come into contact with the Brimnes parts during loading. Secure all parts with ratchet straps or tie-down straps to prevent movement while driving. Smaller parts can be packed into sturdy boxes, and you can cushion the boards in between with blankets.
