Hello everyone,

I am currently preparing to assemble our new Ikea Metod kitchen and want to optimize ergonomics throughout the entire process as much as possible. The specific question is: How can I optimize ergonomics when assembling an Ikea Metod kitchen?

By this, I mean all aspects that make the assembly more comfortable and less physically demanding – starting with the right working height, handling heavy components, and the arrangement of tools, as well as any aids that can make the process more efficient.

Does anyone have experience or tips on how to protect the back, shoulders, and knees, which working positions are best, or which tools or aids actually make sense?

I’m really looking forward to practical advice and shared experiences!

The most important factor is a stable, back-friendly working height. Use height-adjustable worktables or arrange your body position so that you do not have to crouch constantly while working.

Keep tools within easy reach and place heavy parts on an elevated surface to avoid straining your back.

To optimize ergonomics when assembling an Ikea Metod kitchen, I recommend the following approach:

- Initially, set the working height of the assembly surface ideally at waist level to avoid frequent bending or stretching.
- Use height-adjustable supports or sturdy trestles to securely raise heavy cabinets to a comfortable working height.
- Organize tools and fittings systematically and keep them within easy reach to minimize strenuous twisting and reaching movements.
- Also, be sure to take breaks regularly to prevent muscle fatigue.

These recommendations are based on ergonomic guidelines for lifting and working in a slightly forward-leaning posture.

However, this recommendation should be considered more selectively. While waist height is useful for tasks performed with a straight posture, working for extended periods at too high a height can cause tension in the shoulder and neck area.

Are there any experiences regarding how long the Metod assembly usually takes? Perhaps a flexible adjustment of the working height during the process would be advantageous.

Additionally, I would critically question which aids actually reduce strain and which only create additional steps.

Does anyone have data or studies on ergonomics in furniture assembly?

There are some technical details to consider for the ergonomic assembly of the Ikea Metod kitchen, as only a structured approach will sustainably reduce physical strain.

1. Working Height:
- Ideally, the work surface should be set at about 90-100 cm (35-39 inches) – roughly the height of your elbows when standing upright. This height prevents prolonged bending and overstretching.

2. Handling Heavy Components:
- Place base panels and cabinets on stable sawhorses or work tables beforehand.
- This prevents the need to lift them during assembly or kneel on the floor.

3. Tool Arrangement:
- Have all necessary tools (drill, screwdriver, square, spirit level) ready and within reach at a central location before starting.

4. Body Posture:
- Change your working posture regularly to avoid fatigue in specific muscle groups.

5. Aids:
- Use knee pads to protect your knees when working near the floor.
- Magnetic strips or small containers for screws help minimize clutter and searching.

6. Step-by-Step Procedure:
- Plan the assembly precisely according to the instructions.
- First, gather the correct modules and fittings.
- This reduces unnecessary physical strain from searching or rearranging.

In conclusion: How long does Rada30 plan for the overall assembly? For large kitchens, it’s advisable to spread the work over several days to avoid fatigue.

I would like to add that ergonomic breaks and stretching exercises are very important, especially when working for several hours.

I also recommend involving helpers during assembly whenever possible, as lifting the Metod cabinets alone can quickly strain your back.

In addition to maintaining the optimal working height, you should consider your own height—some low workbenches can be uncomfortable for people taller than 180 cm (5 ft 11 in).

Finally, proper lighting and a tidy workspace help improve focus and indirectly support ergonomics by reducing rushed and tense movements.
