luclemens26 Nov 2021 09:37Hello everyone, I am currently planning my moves over the next few years and have been looking more closely into the Ikea Platsa systems. I am especially interested in how sturdy and flexible these cabinets are when repeatedly taken apart and reassembled—both in terms of material quality and the assembly components.
What experiences have you had with the PLATSA furniture after multiple moves? Do they really hold up as well as Ikea claims, or do weaknesses appear when rebuilding? Information about stability, any damage to fittings or wood panels, and how well the system holds up to regular transport would be particularly helpful.
I look forward to your feedback, including any tips on what to watch out for to keep the furniture in good condition for as long as possible.

I love my PLATSA! 🤩 After three moves, it still looks great. Sure, the instructions can be a bit puzzling at times, but once you understand them, reassembling goes really fast. It’s best to tighten all the screws before putting any weight on it. So, no horror stories—just stylish moving companions!

PLATSA is modular, but plywood is not the most durable material for frequent reassembly.

It is important not to overtighten the metal connectors and to check the screws every time the unit is assembled. That is correct. I would also add that the screw-in fittings tend to wear out after several moves. So, it also depends on how the units are handled. Those who move often might want to consider more robust alternatives or keep replacement fittings on hand.
Hello everyone,
PLATSA is indeed very flexible in terms of assembly, but based on my experience with several moves, here are some tips:
- Keep spare parts available: especially the side connectors tend to wear out.
- Before each reassembly, clean the screw holes lightly to ensure better grip for the screws.
- Follow the assembly instructions carefully, as incorrect sequences can cause damage.
- Cushion the individual modules well during transport to avoid pressure marks.
In summary, I would say PLATSA is suitable for occasional moves but not for frequent transportation. For that, it is better to choose professional systems with metal frames.
