Hello everyone,
I recently purchased some Ikea Hemnes furniture pieces, mainly dressers and nightstands. However, our floor is not completely level, which causes the furniture to often wobble or stand unsteadily. This is especially noticeable with the larger pieces, as they do not rest properly on the uneven parts of the floor.
My question is: How can I best level or stabilize Ikea HEMNES furniture on floors with such irregularities? I am looking for a solution that is easy to implement without damaging the furniture or affecting its appearance. Are there, for example, specific shims, pads, or other adjustment options you would recommend?
I look forward to your tips and experiences!

Hello leonu,
First of all, thank you for your detailed description of your issue. With Ikea HEMNES furniture, there are indeed several ways to achieve stability on uneven floors without major modifications.
Here are a few tips that have proven effective:
- Flexible furniture glides or felt pads: These come in different thickness options. If you have stronger unevenness, you can layer several pads under the furniture legs. It is important that the pads are not too thin so they properly fill the gap.
- Adjustable furniture feet: Ikea usually does not include adjustable feet with HEMNES, but you can find replacement feet at your local hardware store that have a screw mechanism. This allows you to adjust the height of individual legs with millimeter precision.
- Small shims made of wood or plastic: These can be placed between the floor and the furniture leg. Make sure the material is non-slip so the furniture does not move.
- Additionally, applying non-slip pads under the furniture can help reduce wobbling.
As a procedure, I would recommend starting with the leg on the biggest uneven spot and leveling it, then adjusting the other legs step by step. It’s best to use a spirit level to check your progress.
I’m curious: How severe are the unevenness exactly? What have you tried so far? I’d be happy to offer more targeted advice if I have more details.

If you have stronger unevenness, you can stick multiple layers under the furniture legs.I can only confirm that. I once had similar problems and was quite frustrated because everything kept wobbling. What really helped me was using flexible felt pads combined with small wooden wedges that I cut myself.
Also, I want to encourage you to tackle the problem step by step. It’s completely normal that not every floor is 100% level. Sometimes simple tools provide lasting stability without requiring much time or money.
If appearance is important to you, you can also try to attach these aids as discreetly as possible.
As Danial already mentioned: a spirit level is great for aligning the furniture properly, and it’s always worth adjusting again.
