Hello everyone, I am planning to assemble an Ikea Besta cabinet in a fairly tight space in my apartment. Specifically, it’s a corner with about 1.20 meters (4 feet) depth but only just under 1.50 meters (5 feet) in width. Due to these spatial constraints, I am unsure how to efficiently and practically install the Besta system there without bumping into the wall or furniture unnecessarily or making the assembly more difficult than it needs to be.

Do you have any experience, tips, or tricks, especially regarding the assembly and installation of the Besta system in such narrow spaces? How do you manage to securely connect the modules, attach the doors correctly, and install moving parts when space is limited? Any practical advice, including recommended tools or general approaches, would be very helpful. Thank you in advance!

Hey! That’s a great question. When I put together my last BESTA, I almost felt like I had two left hands, and the space wasn’t much bigger! 🙂

My advice: Lay out all the individual parts and assemble the modules completely on the floor first before moving them into their final position. This way, you avoid having to work around every centimeter (half an inch) in a tight corner.

Also, I used a small helper to properly align the doors before installing them. That can get really tricky in confined spaces. Good luck, you can do it!

I can understand well that this is causing you a lot of headache right now. Tight spaces are always a challenge, especially when you are working with modular furniture systems that actually require more space.

My advice is to stay patient and make sure to take breaks when you feel frustrated. I have experienced myself how the pressure of working in small rooms can really make assembly difficult.

Maybe you could also protect the individual modules beforehand with protective film or bent cardboard sheets to avoid scratches on walls or furniture. That helped me stay calmer, and the results were better as well.

Here is a simple, structured approach:

- First, I recommend sorting all the individual parts carefully and checking that everything is complete before assembly.
- Then make sure to read the assembly instructions thoroughly, especially the notes regarding modifications in tight spaces.
- Assemble the larger main components (carcass) lying flat to reduce lateral movement.
- If space allows, temporarily install screws and dowels first to loosely hold the modules together.
- Mount doors and fronts last if possible, as they can be cumbersome in confined areas.

If you have a helper, coordinate well to ensure no parts rub against nearby walls during assembly. Good luck!

In tight spaces:
- Assemble modules on site instead of transporting them
- Only screw doors firmly in place once the module is positioned
- Use small screwdrivers for hard-to-reach areas
- Flexible clamps are very practical

This method has worked best for me.

An additional, perhaps unexpected tip: Be sure to carefully consider how you position the modules in relation to door swings and adjacent furniture. In tight spaces, doors may become difficult to open or may hit the wall after installation.

Also, check the alignment of the modules very carefully — even small deviations are hard to fix later once everything is assembled. Sometimes it can help to slightly offset the base plate (if possible) from the wall to avoid such issues.
