Hello everyone,

I am currently planning my new kitchen using the Ikea Metod system and was wondering if anyone has experience with special tools that can significantly simplify the assembly process. There are various tools and accessories that are not included by default but are recommended by users, such as specific screwdriver bits or installation aids for the often tricky adjustable hinges and connectors.

I am especially interested in which tools actually help, where it is best to invest, and which have proven particularly worthwhile for the Metod system. Does anyone have tips or a list of tools that are not necessarily part of the standard kit but make assembly easier or save time?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

To complement the previous tips:

- Metal connectors with internal hex drive are very common for joining cabinet carcasses. For these, Torx bits size T20 or T25 are needed, depending on the model.
- I recommend using a magnetic bit holder as well, which makes positioning the screws much easier.
- For hinges: In addition to the included adjustment tools, a narrow screwdriver with the appropriate blade can help grip screws more precisely.
- Installation templates only offer advantages if you are assembling multiple identical modules. For installing individual carcasses, the instructions are usually sufficient.

High-quality tools protect the material and save frustration.

I agree with Juansi50: Cordless screwdrivers with Torx bits are the most important.

You don’t necessarily have to buy special tools, but rather focus on quality when it comes to standard tools.

What also helps is a small extractor for anchors and connector bolts. This especially makes work easier when fixing mistakes or making adjustments.

Building on the previous explanations:

- Although a torque wrench is not a standard tool, it can be useful for installing wood screws precisely without overtightening.
- When assembling Metod kitchens, spacer strips or special mounting profiles are often required, for which accurate measuring tools are recommended.
- Clamps or quick-release clamps are also advisable, as they facilitate securing the components.

Anyone aiming for a precise installation should consider these additional tools as well. This significantly improves the quality of the final assembly.

To add to the discussion about tool selection:

- Torx bits T20 and T25 cover most screws used with Metod.
- A quality cordless drill with adjustable speed and torque settings helps prevent material damage.
- In addition to the tools, assembly templates are especially useful when working with multiple identical units to avoid errors in hinge placement.
- A simple tool that is often overlooked is a flexible LED work light, which provides bright illumination in tight cabinet spaces.

In conclusion: Carefully choosing the right tools leads to faster and more secure installation.

Many thanks to everyone for the detailed and practical tips!

1. Torx bits: Definitely get good quality ones! Cheap bits wear out quickly and round off Torx screws.

I’ll take this to heart, as I once rounded off a bit while assembling furniture.

That sounds very useful, I’m adding it to my shopping list.

Clamps or locking pliers are also recommended to help hold the parts in place.

I’ll also consider whether this investment is worthwhile.

Overall, I now plan to first assemble the base blender / base carcasses with high-quality Torx bits and a strong yet finely adjustable cordless screwdriver, then switch to medium to fine torque settings for the hinges.

If anyone has experience with the quality of Ikea’s own accessory tools, I’d appreciate some feedback. Some of their offers look quite basic.
