Hello everyone, I am currently considering alternatives to the popular IKEA Brimnes system on the furniture market.
I know the BRIMNES system mainly for its simple design, plenty of storage options, and moderate price. However, I am looking for a solution that is perhaps somewhat more durable in quality and does not look too much like “mass-produced furniture.” What is especially important to me are options that are modular, allow flexible customization, and are possibly available in other materials or higher-quality finishes.
Do you have recommendations or experience with comparable furniture lines or manufacturers that would be a good alternative? I am particularly interested in aspects such as availability, assembly effort, and value for money. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

As an alternative to the BRIMNES system, I recommend systems like the Vitsoe 606 – ultra-compact, durable, and adaptable for storage.
Or the IKEA Pax for wardrobe solutions with more customization options.
For heavy-duty use, solid wood shelves with custom-built support from a carpenter are ideal.

As an alternative, furniture systems made from solid wood or high-quality MDF panels are recommended.I find this point crucial. Often, the BRIMNES system is chosen solely because of its low price, even though more durable alternatives offer a more sustainable solution.

- "Montana System" (Denmark): Modular, durable, wide range of colors, very flexible. The Montana system is indeed a very good example where flexibility and design meet sustainability.
In conclusion, I strongly recommend anyone looking for an alternative to clearly define their personal priorities: material quality, design, adaptability, and budget. The BRIMNES system is a good starting point, but those thinking long-term should seriously consider the modular systems mentioned above.

- Montana system: modular, durable, expensive
- USM Haller: metallic, expensive, very high quality
- String Furniture: flexible, more like shelving
- Local carpenters: custom, price varies
BRIMNES is affordable, visually simple, but not very sturdy. That sums it up well. I'm also curious if any of you have practical experience assembling these alternative systems? Was it more complicated or easier than BRIMNES? This matters to me because I tend to be impatient and not very skilled with DIY when putting together furniture for the first time.
