Hello everyone,

I have installed Ikea Metod cabinet fronts in my kitchen. Unfortunately, I have noticed that stubborn grease buildup sometimes forms on the white fronts, especially near the stove, which is difficult to remove with regular wiping. My question is: How can I improve the cleaning of Ikea Metod fronts when dealing with heavy grease without damaging the surface?

It would be great if you could share not only product recommendations but also effective cleaning methods, tips to prevent grease buildup, or the best approaches for handling grease that has already dried a bit.

Thanks in advance for your experiences!

Actually, the topic of "optimization" is basically just an attempt to avoid the tedious everyday cleaning. To be honest, the foil coating on Ikea Metod cabinets is not the most durable surface. If you’re not careful during cleaning, the fronts will become dull or stained.

Why not simply remove the fronts, soak them, and then clean? This saves frustration and allows for more thorough work.

Or the idea: maybe the fronts just need to be cleaned quickly and more often, instead of letting grease build up over weeks. Isn’t it more sensible to clean consistently rather than trying to perfect the cleaning problem?

This is really an approach that deserves more attention. Many underestimate the advantage of treating fronts modularly.

However:
- Not everyone has the possibility or the willingness to constantly remove the fronts
- It is advisable to check the manufacturer’s instructions to see if frequent removal affects the screws or hinges

Can anyone share experience on this? How sustainable is repeated removal and cleaning in the long term?

Regularly wipe fronts with warm soapy water and immediately dry with a microfiber cloth.

For grease, diluted lemon juice with water is also suitable, as it dissolves grease without causing damage.

Do not use abrasive cleaners or harsh detergents.

A brief guide for removing heavy grease stains:
- Wipe fronts with warm soapy water, leaving them slightly damp
- For dried-on grease, apply damp microfiber cloths and let sit for about 10 minutes
- Then wipe again using a mild cleaner (neutral all-purpose cleaner)
- Always rinse with clean water and dry thoroughly

This helps avoid harsh chemicals and preserves the surface.

Hello, I just wanted to share that I’ve had really positive experiences: using warm water with a little dish soap and then wiping down with vinegar water works very well. It’s very effective, and the surfaces stay looking nice! 🙂

I also think regular cleaning is the best trick—if you don’t let the grease deposits dry, you can avoid heavy scrubbing later.

Good luck to you all!

How do you define "heavy grease" exactly?

I have taken your suggestions on board. In fact, regular cleaning has made quite a difference. Still, I am specifically looking for methods to better remove stubborn residue when grease has been left to accumulate over a longer period since sometimes a few days go by without cleaning.

I plan to systematically test the soaking tip in the coming days. If anyone has more advice on this, I would be happy to hear it!
