mokakoLately, I have been looking closely at the Ikea Pax wardrobe system because I am trying to find a way to store not only hanging clothes but also shoes neatly and space-efficiently in the bedroom. This raised a question for me: Are there Ikea Pax wardrobes with special or dedicated shelves designed specifically for shoes?
What I am mainly interested in is whether there are custom-fit shelves, drawers, or specialized shoe rack elements that can be directly integrated into the Pax system. Not just any flat shelf, but perhaps angled or differently designed surfaces that support the shoes and allow for organized storage.
It is also important to me whether these elements are sturdy enough to hold several pairs of shoes, possibly even boots, without slipping or getting damaged.
Does anyone have experience with Pax shoe storage solutions or perhaps knows of suitable extensions or tips for optimal shoe organization within these wardrobes? I look forward to your feedback and any suggestions on how you have solved this in your own setups.

Are there Ikea Pax wardrobes with a special or dedicated storage surface specifically designed for shoes? That is a good and frequently asked question, since the Pax system is very modular but does not necessarily offer all solutions as standard. Basically, there are different options for shoe storage within Pax wardrobe modules – for example, flat shelves, wire baskets, and also special shoe pull-outs.
The most suitable are so-called “shoe pull-outs” (shoe pull-out elements) available at Ikea – these are designed to store shoes in an organized and easy-to-access way, meaning the storage surfaces are designed to prevent shoes from slipping and allow good sorting.
Alternatively, flat shelves can certainly be used, but care must be taken to ensure the surface is as non-slip as possible, or additional inserts are used to keep shoes stable. Wire baskets, which can be installed in the Pax system, are also popular as they provide good air circulation – however, they offer less firm support for high heels or boots.
An important point when choosing: you should closely check the height and depth of the respective Pax module, especially if storing tall boots. It helps to customize individual modules, for example with taller compartments or drawers optimized specifically for shoe sizes and types.
I would be interested to know: How much shoe storage volume are you planning, and what types of shoes do you mostly have? This helps to identify the best solution.

The best option are so-called “shoe pull-outs” (shoe pull-out units), which you can find at Ikea – these are designed to store shoes neatly and allow easy access, with shelves shaped to prevent shoes from slipping and to keep them well organized. From my experience, I can only confirm that these pull-outs are a real convenience. Especially if, like me, you love order but don’t always have the patience to rearrange everything multiple times – these specialized solutions give you the feeling of having everything truly under control.
However, I also know how frustrating it can be when the shoes don’t fit or keep slipping. With my first Pax shoe pull-outs, that was exactly the problem, because I misjudged the height and boots didn’t fit. But since I started customizing the compartments individually, it works much better.
It’s also important to me that the shelves are sturdy, as I sometimes store heavier boots. The Ikea shoe units are fairly stable, but you should be careful not to overload them.
I’d be interested to hear if anyone here has already integrated custom-made solutions into their Pax, perhaps with additions that Ikea doesn’t offer directly?
