Hello everyone,

I am currently looking into the Ikea Besta system to create a flexible storage solution. My specific question is: Is there a comprehensive guide or a proven concept for assembling Besta units in a way that not only allows modular expansion but also covers different storage needs (e.g., drawers, open compartments, inserts for electronics or cable management)?

I am especially interested in how to best combine the individual components to ensure both stability and maximum flexibility. Are there recommendations for additional parts or third-party modules that are compatible with Besta and make the system even more functional?

I would appreciate concrete experiences, planning tips, or detailed assembly instructions to get the most out of the Besta system.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

I find this question interesting because Ikea systems are usually designed linearly, but rarely offer truly versatile storage concepts that cover all needs.

However, you should consider whether an external guide is really practical, as the Besta system is officially designed more as a rigid shelving unit. In my experience, optimal flexibility often only arises through custom solutions or third-party components.

It would be helpful to know if you have already looked into specific inserts, such as self-adhesive cable channels, adjustable drawer organizers, or universal mounting systems. These kinds of modules can significantly increase flexibility – but an official guide will hardly cover these comprehensively.

There is no official, very detailed guide from Ikea for this.

However, you can combine the Besta components modularly and customize them individually with cable management solutions or storage cabinets.

For special inserts, third-party manufacturers often offer precise interior fittings.

That confirms my suspicion. You won’t find an official construction guide with a wide range of applications.

Unfortunately, there are sometimes quality differences, and some of these parts don’t fit perfectly with the Besta system, which somewhat limits the modular concept. This means that anyone who wants to get the most out of Besta will need their own planning – possibly with individual adjustments and cutting.

Alternatively, I recommend first simulating the assembly digitally with a planning tool (e.g., the Ikea Planner) and then specifically searching for modular inserts. This way, you save time and avoid incorrect purchases.
