Hello everyone, I recently purchased a METOD kitchen cabinet from Ikea and am now facing the challenge of correctly installing the METOD drawer slides. My problem is that the assembly instructions seem a bit unclear, and I want to avoid the drawers sticking or not running smoothly later on.
Specifically, I’m interested in:
- How exactly should I position the slides in relation to the cabinet carcass and the drawers?
- Which screws should I use, and how deep can they be screwed in without damaging the slide?
- Is there a recommended order or any particular details to keep in mind during installation?
Who has experience with this and can provide detailed tips to ensure the drawers run smoothly and quietly afterward? Thanks in advance for your help!

- How exactly should I position the slides in relation to the cabinet carcass and the drawers?Oh, that’s a great question! With Ikea METOD, the slides usually have precise markings on the side panels. It’s important that the rails on both sides are perfectly parallel and aligned at exactly the same height. If you’re not accurate here, the drawer can quickly get stuck!

Is there a recommended sequence or special considerations during installation that I should be aware of?First, install all the rails on the cabinet carcass, then attach the runners to the drawer, and finally click everything together. Take your time and adjust more than once if necessary—that pays off!
Good luck—it will turn out great if you take care during installation! 🙂
For the correct installation of the Ikea Metod drawer slides, I recommend the following steps:
- Positioning: The slide rails should be mounted on the inner sides of the cabinet carcass. Pay close attention to the pre-marked indicators, which should be 37 mm (1.5 inches) from the bottom and about 20 mm (0.8 inches) from the front, depending on the model.
- Fixing: Use the 3.5 x 15 mm (0.14 x 0.6 inch) screws supplied by Ikea. Screw them in carefully to avoid damaging the thin metal surface of the slide.
- Sequence: First, attach the running rails to the cabinet carcass, then mount the moving slide elements to the drawer. After that, insert the drawer into the rails and check the fit.
Recommendation: Use a spirit level or square to ensure the running rails are perfectly parallel. An uneven installation will cause jamming and reduce the lifespan of the slides.
When tightening the screws, apply gentle hand pressure only; do not use excessive torque.

The guide rails are mounted on the inside of the cabinet. Pay close attention to the pre-marked indicatorsExactly! Those markings are really invaluable; you shouldn’t ignore them. I once took the time to double-check with a caliper – everything fits perfectly if you follow them precisely.

Screw in loosely first, then tighten after aligning.I can only agree! It’s better to screw in loosely at first so you can adjust the fit easily. Then tighten them properly afterward. And yes, never warp the metal guide! That only causes problems.
One more tip from me: After installation, make sure to check that the drawer slides smoothly and doesn’t squeak. If it does, double-check that everything is mounted evenly and parallel.
Enjoy the assembly, it will work out fine!
