betesarHello everyone,
I have a very specific question regarding the IKEA Kallax system, specifically about the removable baskets that are often used there. I’ve noticed that the baskets sometimes slide out of the shelf too easily, which is especially annoying when they are filled with some weight or when there are children in the household.
That’s why I wanted to ask the community: Are there practical stops or other simple solutions for the Kallax baskets that prevent them from slipping out too easily and unintentionally?
I’m not talking about fully secure locks, but rather small holding elements that help prevent accidental falls. Maybe someone knows of modified shelves or special accessories designed specifically for this issue.
I’m curious to hear your experiences and tips. Thanks in advance!

One part is attached to the shelf, the matching part to the basket. This doesn’t hold completely secure, but at least prevents the basket from slipping out suddenly.

I think your question is very good because the sliding out of Kallax baskets is indeed a common issue. IKEA does not offer specific stoppers for this, but there are several do-it-yourself options you can use.
For example, door dampers or small bumper pads from a hardware store can be attached to the back inside of the frame. This prevents the basket from sliding out too easily without completely blocking it.
You can also attach felt pads to the sides or bottom of the basket if they fit too loosely – this creates friction and improves stability.
It’s important that the solution does not restrict usability, so it should be as discreet and flexible as possible.
Hope this helps, and feel free to get in touch with details about your specific situation if you need more advice.

That sounds interesting. Do you possibly have a recommendation on the size or thickness of the buffers that would be suitable?
Have you tried using stronger industrial-grade hook and loop tape? I’m a bit concerned that it might fix the basket too firmly inside the cabinet, potentially affecting the drawer function.
The idea sounds very clever and could help preserve the mechanism well. Do you know if there are stoppers specifically designed for wood or laminate surfaces? I would prefer not to leave marks on the cabinet.

Hook and loop tape solutions unfortunately don’t hold perfectly, but at least prevent the basket from sliding out suddenly.

Hi betesar, this topic is really interesting! 🙂 I also had similar issues with my Kallax.
Back then, I used small silicone pads from a craft store—they’re soft enough not to require too much force but strong enough to keep the basket from falling out. You stick them on the inside walls of the cabinet.
A little tip: If you have children who like to play with the furniture, these soft stoppers are really a lifesaver. This way, you can easily manage the problem without much effort.
Maybe this gives you an idea—give it a try! 😉
