Hello everyone,
I am planning to redecorate my son’s bedroom and am considering the IKEA Pax wardrobe. My question is: Is the IKEA Pax wardrobe really suitable for a child’s room?
I am particularly interested in whether the wardrobe is safe enough for children (keyword: anti-tip protection), if the interior layout is flexible enough for changing storage needs (clothes, toys), and whether the material and craftsmanship are durable enough for a child’s room, where furniture can sometimes be treated a bit roughly.
I would appreciate it if you could share your experiences or concerns, and also any suggestions for alternatives if the Pax might not be ideal.
Thank you in advance!

Interesting question. I wonder whether the Pax is really a sustainable choice from an ecological perspective – rectangular cabinets with wood veneer often look stylish, but are they also low in harmful substances? Especially for children's rooms, I would include environmental and health compatibility as part of the decision-making process.
Also, what about the risk of fingers getting pinched in the doors? Are there any experiences regarding this?
I would appreciate opinions that go beyond just the stability aspect.

Regarding safety in the child's room with Pax:
- Anti-tip brackets are essential. IKEA often provides mounting hardware—make sure to use it.
- The interior layout is flexible, which is great because you can combine shelves, clothes rails, and drawers.
- Material: MDF panels with a foil coating, which is fairly durable but requires care around moisture.
Tip: For young children, it is better to choose sliding doors (available with Pax) to reduce the risk of finger injuries.
Conclusion: With anti-tip protection and the right accessories, the Pax can be a very good fit for a child's room.

I have the Pax system for my daughter’s bedroom and am very satisfied. The flexibility is great, especially since needs can change quickly. However, I would recommend retrofitting the wardrobe doors with soft-close dampers to prevent squeaking and cushion hard closing.
Also important: assembly should be done carefully, particularly the anchoring to the wall. This ensures the wardrobe is truly stable.
If you have many small toys, storage boxes inside the wardrobe are very practical. IKEA also offers matching options for these.
