Alexande5425 Mar 2021 08:17Good morning everyone,
I am planning to install an Ikea PAX wardrobe system in my bedroom. However, the floor there is not completely level; there is a slight slope of about 1.5 cm (0.6 inches) over a length of approximately 2 meters (6.6 feet).
My question is: to what extent can the Ikea PAX system be adapted to uneven floors without compromising stability or functionality? Are there practical tips or proven solutions to compensate for irregularities, such as adjustable feet, shims, or similar methods?
It would be helpful if anyone has experience or recommendations regarding the adaptability of the PAX system to sloped or uneven floor surfaces, especially whether the frames or sliding doors are affected.
Thanks in advance!

Ikea PAX wardrobes usually come with adjustable feet that can help level the cabinet on slightly uneven floors. With a slope of about 1.5 cm (0.6 inches) over 2 meters (6.6 feet), this is at the limit but still manageable.
Additionally, I recommend securing the wardrobes to the wall to increase stability and prevent tipping. You can also place thin wood or plastic sheets between the cabinet and the floor to compensate for larger unevenness. However, it is important to ensure that the sheet is stable and level.
It is essential to make sure the cabinet is perfectly vertical when installing the sliding doors; otherwise, the mechanism may catch or the door may not slide smoothly.

Hey Alexande54, great question! From my own experience, I can say that the PAX system can be adjusted very well to uneven floors! 😊
In my first apartment, I also had a slight slope in the floor – I simply used the adjustable feet fully and added small felt pads underneath to make sure everything stood perfectly level.
You just need to be patient when aligning and use a spirit level, then it works really well and the doors close smoothly. Good luck, it will surely turn out great!

However, the load capacity should not be exceeded, as the PAX frame can otherwise warp. For larger unevenness, a stable leveling layer, such as plywood or a rigid plastic sheet, is recommended.
Furthermore, the sliding doors can be adjusted before the final installation. This allows for fine-tuning in case the frame has minor deviations.

Karsten4525 Mar 2021 14:27I like questions like this because the Ikea PAX system is really a chameleon! 😄
Small unevenness can be easily compensated with the feet – the system is really cleverly designed for that. And if it’s a bit more uneven, I would first recommend using sturdy wooden shims instead of experimenting with silicone or other miracle solutions.
A tip from me: When you install the doors – they love to be perfectly straight, so always check with a spirit level; otherwise, the doors might end up dancing the salsa! 😉

Are there specific techniques or products suitable for adjusting sliding doors if the floor remains uneven despite all efforts? And what about the long-term stability if a lot of shimming is used – does this negatively affect the construction or load-bearing capacity?
I would prefer to avoid the wardrobe becoming unstable or the doors jamming after just a few months.
