Joeri50Hello everyone,
I recently purchased several Ikea Brimnes furniture pieces and am currently assembling and using them. I have noticed some potential issues that I would like to discuss here:
- For some models, the stability seems to decrease after extended use, especially with the drawers and connection points.
- The surfaces are sometimes prone to scratches, even when handling objects carefully.
- Some buyers have reported problems with the drawer slides, which can warp or stick.
- Although the assembly instructions are detailed, some screws and fittings appear to be somewhat flimsy.
I am interested in hearing about other users’ experiences with Brimnes furniture, the most common problems encountered, and any helpful tips or modifications during assembly that could increase durability.
Thank you in advance for your feedback!

Hello Joeri50,
your observations correspond with several well-known issues related to Ikea BRIMNES furniture.
- The most common problem concerns the stability of the drawers, especially the plastic runners, which tend to deform and cause sticking or prevent smooth movement.
- The use of particleboard with a laminate coating often leads to swollen edges or chipping of the finish when exposed to moisture.
- Screws, particularly in the back panels and side joints, tend to loosen over time due to stress.
- Assembly usually goes better if the parts are carefully checked beforehand and if appropriate wood glues and reinforcements are applied prior to assembly to increase stability.
In summary, the furniture is functional for the price but comes with compromises in material quality and workmanship. This mainly affects durability under continuous use.

In my case, the drawer slides started sticking after a few months. Replacing them with metal double roller slides solved the problem.

My drawer slides started to stick after a few months.Unfortunately, this is quite common.
I recommend switching to alternative metal slides during assembly.
It is also important not to overload the drawers, as this can quickly damage the plastic components.

The assembly instructions are detailed, but some of the screws and fittings seem rather flimsy to me.The screws themselves are fine; the issue often lies in their use with thin wooden parts. The stress can cause splitting.
Reinforcement, for example with additional brackets or small glued joints, can greatly improve stability.
