Lasin61Hello everyone,
I am planning to assemble my first IKEA Metod kitchen unit myself, but I am facing some challenges regarding the best order and method for assembling the modules. I am especially interested in how a beginner like me can proceed to avoid mistakes during assembly and achieve a stable, functional kitchen.
What tips can you give me on how to best organize the assembly of IKEA Metod kitchen units? Are there specific sequences I should follow? And how can I ensure that the individual components, such as cabinets, countertops, and fronts, fit together evenly and neatly?
I look forward to your experiences and advice!

Hello Lasin61,
First of all, I think it’s great that you’re taking on the self-assembly of the Metod kitchen! Many beginners feel uncertain at first, but with the right approach, it definitely works out.
As a starting point, I always recommend unpacking and sorting all the parts first. This gives you a good overview before you begin the actual assembly. Pay special attention to the orientation of the cabinet carcasses – some are hinged on the right, others on the left – you can find this in the assembly instructions.
During assembly, it often makes sense to start with the plinths and the base cabinets. These form the foundation and must be perfectly level, otherwise the countertop may warp later or the fronts won’t close properly.
Another important tip: definitely use a spirit level when setting up and secure the cabinets to the wall so they stand safely and stably. Especially with longer kitchen runs, it’s also advisable to connect individual modules early on to prevent unnecessary shifting.
Regarding the sequence: start with the lower cabinets, then the tall cabinets, and finally the wall cabinets. Countertops should be installed only at the very end.
Last but not least: take your time – rushing often leads to mistakes. I wish you the best of luck, and feel free to ask if you have any questions!

Hey Lasin61,
It’s really exciting that you want to assemble your own Metod kitchen! 😊 You can do it, don’t worry!
What helped me a lot back then was taking it step by step and not trying to do everything at once. Piece by piece, everything becomes clearer and easier.
First, you should read the IKEA instructions from start to finish before you begin. This way, you get an overview of the entire process.
I also recommend measuring and planning carefully in advance to know exactly where the cabinets will go, to avoid unpleasant surprises when fitting everything in. Accuracy really pays off here.
And very importantly: don’t let small difficulties discourage you! You can overcome every challenge – and in the end, it’s amazing to see your own kitchen standing! 👏

Lasin61,
For beginners, always align cabinets precisely and secure them to the wall. Install the countertop only after all base cabinets are firmly in place. Prepare your tools: cordless drill, spirit level, screwdriver.
Sequence: baseboard, cabinets, countertop, fronts and handles.

Hello everyone,
I would like to suggest a structured procedure here that makes assembling IKEA Metod kitchen units easier, especially for beginners:
- Preparation:
- Check the room and measure all relevant areas, especially installation depth and heights.
- Sort all components by type (cabinets, fronts, countertops, etc.) and verify completeness.
- Step 1: Install and level the baseboards
- Attach the feet or plinths for the base cabinets and adjust their height correctly.
- Use a spirit level to ensure everything is level.
- Step 2: Assemble the base cabinet carcasses
- When assembling the carcasses, pay attention to the hinge orientation and the correct use of screws.
- Step 3: Align and secure the cabinets
- Place all carcasses side by side and connect them with the included joining plates.
- Secure them firmly to the wall to prevent any movement.
- Step 4: Install the countertop
- It is important to check the fit and make any necessary cutouts for the sink and stove.
- Step 5: Attach fronts and handles
- Fit and align the fronts.
- Install the handles.
Additional tips:
- Do not work under time pressure.
- Repeatedly check alignment while screwing.
- When installing the countertop, make sure it is not pressed tightly between the wall and cabinets to protect the material.
I hope this helps you and everyone else here!

Hello Lasin61,
To begin, I would like to quote this sentence from Naomige:
This is really essential because a stable foundation ensures you won’t have alignment problems later. I would add that when aligning the baseboards, you should frequently check with a spirit level, especially if the floor is uneven. It can be worthwhile to level the floor somewhat.
Additionally, I would recommend being careful when mounting the cabinets to avoid overtightening the screws, as this can easily damage the material. It’s better to proceed gently and check the cabinets periodically.
Also, when installing the countertop, some caution is necessary: you shouldn’t press it directly against the wall, since wood-based materials can expand and contract.
I wish you the best of luck with the assembly!
