Hello everyone,

I am currently redesigning my son’s bedroom and am very interested in the Ikea PAX series as a storage solution. Since the furniture is very flexible and customizable, I’m wondering if Ikea offers any PAX models specifically designed for children's rooms, for example in terms of size, safety, or child-friendly design?

Although I can customize the regular PAX systems individually, I would like to know if Ikea perhaps has ready-made packages or components explicitly marketed or optimized as children's room versions.

If that is not the case, I would also appreciate any tips or experiences on how to best adapt the PAX models to be child-friendly, making them sturdy, safe, and practical for kids.

Looking forward to your insights and experiences!

There are no PAX models specifically designed for children's rooms from Ikea. However, you can adapt the standard PAX systems with suitable shelves and doors to meet the needs of a children's room.

Hello klaan,

I’d like to add something here: Although Ikea doesn’t offer PAX models specifically designed as a children’s bedroom series, the system itself is modular and very flexible. For children’s rooms, it’s especially important to choose the right safety features, such as securing the units to the wall, rounded edges, and compartments accessible to children.

If you carefully adjust the widths and heights of the PAX wardrobes to fit the room size and select sturdy doors with good handles, the wardrobes can work very well in children’s rooms. Additionally, there are options like baskets, drawers, and special compartments that make good use of vertical storage space.

You just need to pay attention to finishes that are typically considered “child-friendly,” since Ikea designs this series in a rather neutral and timeless style.

Hope this helps with your planning.

Best regards!

I completely agree. The PAX models are basically like Lego for storage – you can build your ideal setup! 😄 Just without any specific children's design built in.

I think you can create really cool wardrobe solutions for kids’ rooms by using, for example, colorful boxes or doors equipped with magnetic boards. A little creativity is all it takes! Just make sure to secure everything properly to the wall – safety comes first.

The PAX range is extremely flexible, which is its biggest advantage. So why not customize it a bit yourself?

Hello klaan,

I think it’s great that you’re researching PAX wardrobes specifically for a children’s room! Since I have three kids myself, I can say: there are no official PAX models designed specifically for kids’ rooms, but with a few tricks, you can create a real space-saving solution 😊

- Sturdy: Proper assembly and wall anchoring are essential!
- Safe: Secure edges or use edge protectors
- Flexible: Combine tall cabinets with lower units

In my experience, using colorful boxes and drawer inserts that are easily accessible for children works well. They love being able to put away and find their toys themselves.

Good luck with your project, I’m sure it will turn out great!

From my perspective, it is especially important to pay attention to safety features when using the PAX models in a children's room, as Ikea does not explicitly provide these for the PAX systems, which are primarily designed as general wardrobe units.

My recommendations:
- Ensure stability with additional wall anchoring
- Avoid doors with sharp edges or heavy glass elements
- Use interior fittings that provide good visibility and easy access

If you plan to use the system long-term, it is worth investing in suitable hardware and possibly some older components that are particularly durable.

Children’s rooms always require extra care in planning, especially when dealing with taller furniture.
