Benren10Hello everyone,
I am currently looking into which spare parts for Ikea Hemnes furniture are particularly difficult to obtain. I have noticed that with some Hemnes pieces, especially after several years of use, problems arise when you need those specific replacement components.
I am especially interested in items like individual drawer slides, special fittings, or handles, which are sometimes not standardized. Has anyone experienced which parts are really hard or even impossible to get through the official Ikea channels or third-party suppliers? And how do you handle situations, for example, when a drawer runner sticks or a handle comes loose, but replacement parts are not readily available?
Looking forward to an active exchange!

Does anyone here have experience with which parts are actually difficult or impossible to obtain through the official Ikea channel or third-party sellers? This is a key question because Ikea sometimes shows real weaknesses in spare parts availability. In my experience, the drawer slides for the Hemnes cabinet are particularly problematic. Although they look quite simple, you often notice that standard slides from hardware stores are not compatible.

How do you deal with situations like a sticking drawer rail or a loose handle?Personally, I have often needed spare parts that I could no longer order from the official Ikea service because they were either discontinued or out of stock. However, this may vary depending on the region. An alternative is searching auction sites or forums where other Hemnes owners trade or sell leftover parts. I find this is not an ideal solution since it is fragmented and unreliable.
Furthermore, I wonder whether Ikea should communicate more proactively about which parts will remain available in the long term. Otherwise, customer loyalty is lost due to frustration during repairs.
I had to replace the slatted bed base support for my Hemnes bed. Ikea no longer supplied it directly, so I had to use a similar one from a third-party supplier. However, it was quite tricky to adjust it properly.
You can usually find handles, as there are alternatives available. But special fittings and the slides for drawers are often difficult to get directly from Ikea.

It’s really fun to choose and install a new handle yourself—it completely refreshes the piece of furniture. But when it comes to drawer slides or those small, hidden guides, the fun unfortunately ends. I’ve tried multiple times to find suitable replacement parts, for example for my Hemnes dresser. Fortunately, I was still lucky with Ikea, but it was close.
So, my advice: If you want to enjoy Hemnes furniture for a long time, it’s best to secure replacement parts as early as possible or check before buying how replacement parts are handled! That can really save you a lot of frustration. I think having a small spare parts list when purchasing would be fantastic.
