Hello everyone, I have been using the IKEA Brimnes chest of drawers with its drawers at home for some time. However, I find the drawer organization not ideal, especially when you want to store different categories of items – such as underwear, socks, small accessories, or documents. I am particularly interested in how to better structure the drawers, for example with suitable inserts, special organizers, or clever folding techniques, to make the best use of the available space while maintaining good visibility. Does anyone have practical experience or ideas on which solutions have proven especially effective? Thank you in advance!

Hey ashkan, great question! 😊 I also see the BRIMNES drawers as a slightly underestimated treasure chest when set up properly. My advice is to start by investing in smaller boxes or compartments – this separates categories and lets you see at a glance where everything belongs. A tip: invest in flexible dividers made of fabric or plastic, so you can adjust the compartments as needed.

Regarding folding techniques: try the method where you fold clothes upright, so you can fit many more items in the drawer without losing track. It’s like a domino effect in the wardrobe – really fun! 😄 It’s also important not to pack everything in, or else the overview suffers. Sometimes less is more!

Hello ashkan, your question is very interesting and concerns many people looking for multifunctional storage solutions. To efficiently organize the BRIMNES drawers, I recommend starting by sorting items according to their purpose and frequency of use. A suggested process:

- Completely empty the drawers and group the contents by category (e.g., underwear, socks, documents).
- Measure the drawer dimensions precisely, then choose suitable divider and insert systems, preferably modular systems that can be adapted to individual needs.
- For smaller accessories, I recommend boxes with flexible compartments (e.g., made of acrylic or foam) to prevent everything from getting mixed up.
- To maximize space, sorting textiles using the so-called “vertical folding technique” is advisable – this improves visibility and allows quick access at any time.

Are you planning to use only standard containers, or are you considering custom-cut inserts? Especially with the BRIMNES drawers, which are relatively shallow, the correct height of the organizers is crucial. There are also tailored solutions that you can build yourself if you are somewhat handy. I would be interested to know which items you specifically want to store and what you find most lacking in your current organization.

Sure, folding methods are great, but I wonder: does it really make that much difference in the BRIMNES drawers? In the end, you just stuff everything in anyway, and chaos returns. The idea of optimizing space seems a bit overrated to me. It’s better to get into the habit of decluttering regularly instead of spending hours fiddling with folding.

Of course, but if I have to think every time about which compartment holds what, I lose more time than I gain. Maybe the problem isn’t the way it’s organized, but the assumption that the drawers are suitable as permanent storage for everything. Sometimes you just have to be more selective about what you really need. The BRIMNES is more of a basic piece of furniture, not a miracle solution for everything.

Thank you for the feedback so far! I appreciate the different perspectives and would like to be a bit more precise: In my drawers, I mainly keep everyday clothing like socks and underwear, along with some smaller accessories (belts, scarves) and occasionally papers or documents that I need to store temporarily. What I currently lack is a clear separation of categories, so I often have to search for items.

I prefer standard containers because I want a solution that doesn’t require much effort. DIY inserts are interesting but more of a last resort.

Decluttering is of course a given for me; I think this is more about achieving the best possible internal organization. Maybe a mix of folding techniques and compartmentalization would work?
