Hello everyone,

I am currently focusing intensely on Ikea Platsa, especially regarding individual and customized DIY projects. I have noticed that there seem to be many creative ideas and modifications that go beyond the standard furniture. To make my search and research more efficient, I would like to know: Is there a community or forum specifically and exclusively dedicated to Ikea PLATSA DIY projects?

I am not looking for a general Ikea thread or a broad DIY forum, but rather a group or platform where people specifically ask questions, share instructions, and exchange ideas related to PLATSA. For example, also with practical tips on assembly options, combinations, special tools, or critical points when extending the system.

Does anyone have experience or a recommendation on where I can find such a resource? I want to avoid sifting through hours of very general posts that loosely cover various Ikea cabinets.

I am not aware of any community dedicated exclusively to PLATSA. You can find many DIY projects in general Ikea forums or on platforms focused on furniture modifications.

Hello Jannis49,

I understand your desire for a specialized community, as PLATSA indeed offers many modification options that are well suited for DIY projects.

I am not aware of a dedicated forum specifically for PLATSA. Usually, reports and guides on PLATSA projects are shared within larger furniture or DIY forums, such as IKEA-focused groups that cover various product lines, or general do-it-yourself platforms.

What I can recommend is to pay attention to how projects are handled locally, which materials and tools people prefer—such as furniture panels, screws, connectors, and possibly cladding materials that are also breathable to avoid restricting ventilation within the modules.

How exactly do you want to modify your constructions—purely functional, aesthetic, or with additional technology? If you outline that briefly, I’d be happy to offer specific tips to help you with your search or project setup.

Thank you for your offer! My focus is actually on functional modifications – mainly, I want to optimize PLATSA wardrobe systems effectively in terms of space utilization. For example, by installing special interior fittings, lighting systems, and also considering different heights.

Furthermore, I am interested in reliable solutions to stabilize modules that are extended with their own materials. So constructive questions about weight and load capacity are also important to me.

Your observation about the fasteners is already very helpful. More specific advice on the possibilities and limits of DIY extensions within the existing system would be great.

Regarding your question, Jannis49:

There are various general groups for Ikea furniture, where PLATSA is a frequently discussed topic. Unfortunately, there is often a lack of focus on “only PLATSA.”

As for the DIY aspects, it is also useful to check Ikea’s own customer forum. Although there are fewer DIY guides there, experienced users often answer practical questions about the system. YouTube also offers many complex PLATSA modification projects with step-by-step instructions, some of which are very detailed.

If the size and specialization of the community are very important to you, you might consider starting a smaller PLATSA DIY meetup yourself—often the issue is a lack of central meeting points rather than a lack of interest.

I find this question very interesting because it suggests that specializing in a single Ikea furniture system could be practical and desirable. However, it’s also important to critically consider whether a community with such a narrow focus can attract enough participants to be truly active and helpful.

Additionally, there is the question of how much DIY modification is ultimately possible with PLATSA without compromising the modular system or losing warranty claims. What are your thoughts on this?
