Hello everyone,
I’m planning to equip my kitchen with Ikea Metod cabinets, and an important factor for me is how easy the individual modules are to clean. I’m particularly interested in whether there are any Metod cabinet modules that are especially easy to clean due to their surface texture or design.
I’m not just referring to the front panels but also interior surfaces, edges, and possibly special coatings that prevent dirt and grease from building up. Are there any experiences regarding which Metod modules or front panel types are the easiest to maintain?
My goal is to spend as little time as possible on intensive cleaning in the kitchen while still having durable and robust kitchen furniture. Thanks in advance for your tips and information!

I have the white high-gloss fronts from Metod. They are really easy to clean, usually just a damp cloth is enough.
It is important not to use abrasive cleaners, as they can quickly cause scratches.
Other fronts, like wood decor, are somewhat more prone to stains and harder to keep clean.

The high-gloss lacquered fronts from Ikea Metod are coated with a special PU finish, which is relatively smooth and water-repellent. As a result, grease or dust adheres less, making cleaning with mild detergents straightforward.
However, be cautious with solid color or foil-covered fronts: these surfaces are usually matte and may have pores or fine textures. This can cause baked-on grease or fine dust to stick more firmly, making cleaning more difficult and often requiring mechanical treatment (e.g., gentle brushing).
Besides the fronts, the interior of the cabinet also plays a role. Many modules are made of melamine resin-coated chipboard. These are generally resistant to moisture and stains with regard to capacity, but cleaning is more challenging around corners or joint areas when dirt gets trapped.
So, if easy long-term cleanliness is a priority for you, you should choose very smooth fronts and possibly equip the interior sides with wipeable films or additional liners.
One question for you: Are you planning a heavily used kitchen with lots of cooking, or is it more decorative and used infrequently? This makes a big difference when it comes to cleaning.

PU lacquer is resistant to liquids and many mechanical stresses, but high-gloss fronts show micro-scratch marks and haze very quickly.
From my point of view, the actual usability in daily life is often underestimated when only easy cleaning is considered. Especially in heavily used kitchens, small scratches on high-gloss fronts leave unpleasant marks, which in turn lead to more intensive cleaning.
Therefore, I recommend that anyone who values side or front edges highly also consider matte laminated fronts. These are somewhat more demanding to clean, but scratches are much less visible over time. The "easy cleaning" must be weighed here between appearance, durability, and maintenance effort.
In my assessment, there are no Metod modules that are completely low-maintenance while meeting all requirements for robustness and easy cleaning at the same time. It is important to look closely at the surface and set your own priorities.
In addition to the previous posts, I would like to point out that Ikea Metod has expanded its range of front materials and surface textures in recent years to improve ease of cleaning.
- Painted high-gloss fronts are the easiest to clean because they are smooth and resistant.
- Matte-painted surfaces require a bit more care and gentle cleaning.
- Foil-covered fronts (melamine coatings) offer good abrasion resistance but tend to hold dirt longer in fine textures.
The inside surfaces of the modules are usually made of melamine-coated particle boards, which are durable but should be protected against moisture penetration. For particularly low-maintenance interiors, there are also plastic inserts or special inserts that facilitate cleaning.
It is also practical to pay attention to handles: handle strips and push-to-open mechanisms reduce corners and edges where dirt can accumulate.
If ease of cleaning is a crucial factor, it is advisable to examine sample fronts at your local Ikea store. There you can also feel how different surfaces behave and how easy they are to clean.
One last tip: regular and quick cleaning after cooking is more effective than occasional deep cleaning.
