Hello everyone, I wanted to ask if anyone has experience with how to make IKEA Hemnes furniture quieter? Specifically, my Hemnes dresser and nightstand have drawers and doors that creak or rattle quite loudly when opened and closed. It seems to me that the wooden runners or metal fittings aren’t very sound-absorbing. I have already tried tightening the screws a bit, but the noise remains. Does anyone have tips or proven methods to reduce the noise level? Maybe accessories like felt pads or special dampers? Thanks for your advice!

That sounds annoying! 😅 I had the same problem with my Hemnes furniture. What worked well for me was first cleaning the hinges and sliding rails, then applying a little silicone spray. Just spray a bit on, and the movement becomes much smoother and quieter. I also attached felt pads to the contact points where wood meets wood – this often reduces the annoying banging noise.

One more tip: Sometimes it helps to tighten the screws so they’re neither too tight nor too loose. It just takes some fine adjustment to prevent any wobbling or sticking.

Interesting, but I wonder if spraying silicone can really be recommended without checking the material compatibility with IKEA fittings and wooden surfaces. It’s possible that a poorly chosen lubricant could damage the plastic parts or attract dirt, causing more harm in the long run.

Does anyone have concrete experience with how durable this method actually is? Maybe there’s also a more mechanical solution, like replacing the fittings with soft-close models?

Regarding the criticism of silicone spray, I can add that there are indeed special lubricants designed specifically for furniture fittings. These are usually PTFE-based (Teflon) and very durable without being harmful.

Additionally, felt or foam rubber strips can be applied at points where wood contacts wood or metal meets wood. These absorb shocks and effectively reduce noise.

For Hemnes furniture, it is also advisable to check the seating and alignment of the drawer slides, as tension is often the main cause of creaking and rattling.

Stick felt pads to contact points, apply silicone spray to sliding rails, and retighten screws—but not too tightly. These three steps usually result in significant improvements.

In summary, I would recommend:
- Check all screws and ensure they are properly tightened
- Apply thin felt or foam pads to contact surfaces
- Thoroughly clean sliding rails and treat them with a suitable furniture-specific lubricant, usually PTFE-based

This approach is fact-based and proven.

Additionally, it is important to verify the correct assembly of the furniture, as incorrect installation can cause stresses that worsen the noise.
