Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a Pax wardrobe from IKEA and am currently customizing it. I noticed that the standard door handles don’t quite meet my expectations. My question is: Are there alternative door handles for Pax wardrobes that are not from IKEA? I am especially thinking of handles that are easy to install, durable, and perhaps look a bit more unique and high-quality.

If anyone has experience with third-party suppliers, DIY solutions, or other installation options, I would really appreciate detailed tips. Maybe there are specific dimensions or technical details to watch out for to ensure the handle fits properly and the door remains fully functional.

Thanks in advance for your support!

Yes, there are alternatives. You can use third-party handles; the important thing is that the fixing distance fits, usually 128 mm (5 inches) or specifically for Pax 96 mm (4 inches). Simply measure and either use adapters or drill your own holes.

Hello Blala,

Your question is very interesting, and it’s worth taking a closer look. The Pax wardrobes sometimes have somewhat unusual drill holes for the handles, so this should be taken into account.

- First, you should measure the distance between the drill holes on the door (usually 96 mm (3.8 inches), but older models may have 92 mm (3.6 inches) or 128 mm (5 inches) on other IKEA parts).
- Many third-party suppliers offer handles with the common 128 mm (5 inches) hole spacing, which often does not fit the Pax directly. A simple solution is to get mounting brackets or adapter pieces to adjust the hole spacing, or to reposition the screws yourself.
- Also, pay attention to the thickness of the wardrobe door, as some handles are designed for thinner doors.

If you are creative, you can also use so-called furniture knobs, which are attached with only one screw — this gives you more flexibility with positioning.

Summary:
1. Take measurements.
2. Look for third-party providers offering Pax-compatible models or use adapters.
3. Possibly adjust the drill holes.
4. Alternative: use furniture knobs.

Good luck!

Hey Blala,

great that you want to upgrade your Pax wardrobe! 😊 I recently installed handmade leather handles myself – they not only look fantastic but also feel really nice. Admittedly, the installation was a bit tricky since I had to drill new holes, but the result was definitely worth it!

If you’re interested in a DIY tip: check out markets for old furniture fittings or browse craft stores, where you can often find really cool items that give your wardrobe a unique touch.

Have fun experimenting – creative solutions are the most rewarding!

There are several third-party alternatives for the Pax. Just check the drill holes, often 96 mm (3.8 inches) apart. Handles with a 128 mm (5 inches) hole spacing will not fit without drilling. Adapters are rarely necessary; repositioning the holes is usually quicker.

That sounds really great and quite personal! I know how something handmade can bring a space to life. However, it’s also understandable to feel a bit unsure about whether everything will hold and fit properly in these situations. Have you received any tips or gained any experience on how to drill the holes as accurately as possible without causing damage? That would definitely boost my confidence.
