Hello everyone,

I am looking for suitable door stoppers for my IKEA Kallax shelving unit that prevent the doors from hitting the furniture or closing too forcefully. Does anyone know of affordable and, above all, reliable door stoppers that can be easily ordered from online retailers? I am specifically interested in products that fit well with the Kallax design and are not too expensive—preferably in the lower price range. Maybe there are special models that are particularly suitable for the narrow doors of the Kallax?

I look forward to your tips and recommendations!

To take a closer technical look at the door stopper question:

Vuralbar55, here are a few points you should consider when purchasing:

1. Door stopper material: Rubber, silicone, or foam offer different cushioning properties.
2. Attachment method: Self-adhesive or screw-mounted? For the Kallax shelf, self-adhesive pads are definitely recommended, as screws can damage the wooden panels.
3. Size and shape: Especially with narrow doors in the Kallax, it is important that the stopper is not too thick, otherwise it can interfere with closing.
4. Load capacity: If the doors are closed frequently and quickly, the stopper should be impact-resistant.

I would therefore recommend silicone pads, which offer some elasticity but are still robust enough. Online retailers like Amazon or specialized hardware stores often have good kits that are priced under 10 euros (about 11 USD) for several stoppers.

What is personally important to me: preparation is definitely everything here. The surface must be grease-free for the adhesive. Otherwise, it can quickly happen that the stopper falls off again after a short time.

If you only want something very simple: there are small round rubber buffers that can be attached with double-sided adhesive tape. They are very inexpensive, work well, and usually fit in the corners of doors.

I used these for a shelf, and a set cost less than 5 euros.

Thanks for all the great tips!

@Laukau5: Your advice on fastening and surface preparation is very helpful, as I hadn’t considered those details carefully before.

@vinpau & vin_leo: The idea of using foam or rubber buffers sounds interesting because I don’t want to restrict the door opening too much.

Based on your experiences, silicone seems to be the best option for me right now. Does anyone have experience with whether these door stoppers maintain their adhesive strength during temperature changes (such as summer or winter in unheated rooms)?

Looking forward to more input!

I can confirm that. In my case, such rubber bumpers have held up excellently for months, even with temperature changes. It is important to clean the surface properly (isopropanol helps) and let the bumpers dry for a few hours before applying any load.

One more tip: Some cheaper models become brittle if exposed to strong sunlight, but this usually doesn’t happen with Kallax shelves used indoors.

I have noticed that cheaper adhesive stoppers tend to lose some of their grip during the winter. I used a trick back then: after attaching them, I gently warmed the stoppers with a hairdryer, which helps the adhesive cure better.

Alternatively, you can use silicone adhesive to reglue them if needed. Maybe that’s an idea for you!
