Hello everyone, I am currently facing the challenge of installing an Ikea PAX system on a quite uneven floor. The irregularities are clearly visible to the naked eye, which makes me particularly uncertain about the sliding doors and the cabinets that need to be screwed together. My main question is: What methods or suitable accessories can I use to install the PAX system securely and stably on uneven floors so that it doesn’t jam, wobble, or warp over time? I would appreciate any experiences, tips on leveling aids, or special assembly instructions tailored to such uneven conditions.

Interesting point. The fit of the sliding doors is indeed critical when the floor is not level. An important aspect here is not only to level the floor itself but also to ensure that the cabinets stand perfectly plumb relative to each other. This is the only way to avoid stress within the frame.

Regarding your concern: there are special pedestal feet or furniture legs with threads that can effectively compensate for height differences. However, I would also recommend checking the installation on small leveling plates before firmly screwing the PAX carcass frames together. It is important to ensure that these measures increase stability in the long term and are not just a temporary fix. Do you have the option to precisely measure the unevenness beforehand? This would be a prerequisite for accurately fitting leveling screws or shims.

Simply equip the PAX units with adjustable furniture feet and place them underneath the cabinets. Then adjust the feet until everything stands firmly. Alternatively, you can also use installation wedges made of wood or plastic.

Here is a brief step-by-step guide for correctly installing PAX on uneven floors:

- Use a spirit level to carefully check the floor and identify the extent of any unevenness.
- Screw on adjustable furniture feet that can be continuously adjusted.
- In the first step, temporarily set up the individual PAX carcasses and adjust the feet so that each unit fully rests on the floor.
- Important: When assembling the cabinets side by side, check their alignment with a spirit level and, if necessary, insert small shims.
- Once everything is aligned, tighten the connections between the carcasses to avoid any stress.

Common mistakes include rushing the installation or not regularly checking the stability. This can cause the doors not to close properly or the cabinet to become unstable later. The goal is a combination of height adjustment of the feet and millimeter-precise alignment of the modules.

To answer your question thoroughly: the most important thing is to equip the wardrobe with adjustable feet. Ikea itself offers such feet that can be mounted under the PAX system. If the feet alone are not enough, you can also use wedges made of wood or plastic, which should be cut very precisely to fit.

Additionally, I recommend measuring the floor—possibly using a simple laser level, which clearly shows any height differences. The tricky part with PAX is indeed aligning the sliding doors, as they are very sensitive to twisting or warping. Therefore, you should align the carcasses before screwing them together and only tighten the screws once everything is perfectly level.

If possible, place the PAX units not directly on the floor but on a thin, also level baseboard, such as a plywood panel cut to size. This compensates for minor floor unevenness and provides greater stability. However, this only makes sense if the floor irregularities are very significant.

That is exactly the crucial point. Without precise measurements, you are always in the dark and do not have a reliable basis for deciding which accessories fit best. There are also technically advanced solutions, such as height-adjustable steel feet, which can reliably compensate for larger unevenness.

One challenge remains, however, to align the PAX units evenly in height so that no stress occurs in the assembled structure later. Therefore, my advice is to use a measuring rod or caliper repeatedly to bring the locks of the carcasses to the same height before assembling the modules. This step is often underestimated and can cause problems with the doors afterwards.
