Hello everyone,

I am currently planning my kitchen using Ikea Metod cabinets and intend to integrate several built-in appliances such as an oven, dishwasher, and microwave. I’m wondering how to best optimize the construction of the Metod cabinets to ensure everything remains stable, functional, and as easy to maintain as possible.

Specifically, I’m interested in how you assemble the cabinets around the appliances, what sequence you would recommend, which details to pay attention to during installation (e.g., ventilation, fastening, accessibility of connections), and if there are any special installation tips for a neat and durable integration.

It would be great if you could also share any experiences with combining different appliances within one cabinet, for example an oven plus warming drawer or microwave plus refrigerator in a tight space.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

I would start with the heaviest appliances first, usually the oven. This ensures a stable base. It is important not to block the ventilation of the appliances.

When working with Ikea Metod cabinets that include built-in appliances, the following points should be considered:

- Check the exact dimensions of the appliances before assembly.
- The cabinet structure should provide sufficient stability to support the weight of the appliances over the long term.
- Ventilation openings, especially for ovens and refrigerators, are essential to prevent overheating.
- Connections for electricity and water must remain easily accessible, preferably without having to disassemble the entire unit.

A practical assembly sequence is to first build the carcass, then position it according to the appliance, and finally attach fittings and coverings.

I am happy to add a brief step-by-step guide that has worked well for me:

1. Measure the appliances and gather exact technical data (dimensions, ventilation, connections).
2. Assemble the base cabinet completely, paying close attention to level and plumb, since only perfectly aligned cabinets ensure a proper fit for the appliances.
3. Slide the appliance into the cabinet, preparing and checking all connections beforehand.
4. Secure the appliance according to the manufacturer’s instructions (usually screws on the sides or bottom).
5. Attach the covering panels, leaving enough space for air circulation.

Common mistake: building cabinets too tight or covering ventilation slots, which can lead to overheating or damage to the appliances.

Ventilation is essential. No matter how good the cabinet looks, if the appliances do not have air circulation, problems will arise. I always recommend using the Ikea ventilation panels and not blocking them.

Thanks, that makes sense. Does this mean you should always start with the oven at the bottom, or can it also be installed in the middle? If so, how does that affect the stability of the cabinet?

Also, how do you handle the mounting? Do you use the manufacturer’s own solutions or do you prefer compatible systems from third parties?
