Hello everyone, I am planning a move soon and want to transport my IKEA Besta cabinets with as few scratches as possible. Since the surfaces are quite delicate, I am wondering what specific measures I can take to prevent scratches and other damage during transport. I am particularly interested in whether certain padding, protective films, or packaging materials are especially recommended, and what the best approach is when transporting the furniture either disassembled or fully assembled. It would also be helpful to know if there are any specific areas of the Besta units that require extra protection. I would really appreciate any concrete tips, practical experiences, or recommendations on the order of packing.

I would definitely disassemble the BESTA. Then wrap all parts with bubble wrap, paying special attention to padding the edges multiple times. For the fronts, use microfiber or cotton cloths between the wrap to avoid scratches. Thick blankets are also good when wrapping the furniture before loading it into the transporter.

Hello Ilhanfu, to answer your question in more detail: The most important thing is to carefully disassemble the BESTA components, as transporting them fully assembled greatly increases the risk of scratches caused by movement. The doors, in particular, are delicate and should be protected with soft cloth before padding. I also recommend storing the screws in small bags and attaching these to the respective parts to avoid losing anything during reassembly. The surfaces do not tolerate rough materials, so using bubble wrap together with soft fabrics is ideal. For the actual transport, the furniture pieces should be secured to prevent shifting—non-slip mats or ratchet straps work well for this. If you need to store the components in the moving vehicle, make sure there is adequate ventilation, as moisture can cause damage. If you want to know more, feel free to ask!

Interesting tip, but I wonder if careful packing and a bit of caution would suffice without creating an XXL cushioning battleground. In many cases, overpacking should actually be avoided because it can cause more damage—like furniture swelling where the padding presses too hard or moisture getting trapped. In my opinion, handling and loading carefully prevent scratches more effectively than just asking, “Is there even more padding under this?” What do you think?

There’s definitely some truth to that! However, I think both approaches work well together: a solid basic cushioning protects against minor impacts, and careful handling is essential, of course. For the BESTA fronts, I like to use velvet cloths or old pillowcases to prevent the protective film from slipping. It’s also very important to protect corners and edges separately — this is where my “hero moves” with blankets and bubble wrap come into play. 😉

Exactly! I’ve seen too many scratches without any protection. Just be careful not to use sticky or lint-prone materials.

In summary, I would say: preparation, suitable materials, and a bit of careful attention make it possible to get the BESTA through the move intact — as annoying as moving often is. Good luck!
