I am considering how to effectively use the Ikea PAX system in an office setting, especially in smaller workspaces where storage space is limited. I am interested in the options for adapting these modular wardrobes flexibly to different work requirements—whether for files, office supplies, or technical equipment. Are there any experiences with configuring PAX to both visually fit into an office environment and functionally support the workflow? What about internal divisions, doors, and additional accessories to create an organized yet easily accessible system? I look forward to practical tips and creative ideas.

That’s a good approach you’re taking. However, I wonder how realistic it is to create truly efficient office storage from a product system primarily designed for private homes. While PAX is modular, its depth and height differ significantly from traditional office furniture. Do you already have specific ideas about which components you need for the office? I would also question the load capacity and ergonomics when it comes to files or technical equipment. How long do you expect the furniture to last?

I think sometimes that’s exactly what makes these systems appealing: they bring a certain casualness to the office that doesn’t look standard or generic. By using different doors, shelves, or even sliding doors, you can create a truly personalized atmosphere that conventional office furniture often lacks. Additionally, PAX is usually more affordable and flexible. So, why not? 😉

An important aspect when using PAX in an office is proper planning of the interior fittings. PAX offers various compartments, drawers, and hanging rods that can be effectively adapted for file folders, hanging files, or office equipment. It is advisable to adjust the depth of the cabinet to the size of the items to be stored: for example, traditional hanging folders fit best in the wider PAX models with a depth of 58cm (23 inches). With clever organization, you can achieve maximum clarity and accessibility. A key tip: ensure the doors close properly to minimize dust and noise.

I find that especially interesting as well. Especially nowadays, when many people work from home or flexible offices are becoming more common, it’s great to have furniture that shows personality while still being functional, rather than sterile pieces. I would also add that the choice of doors (open, with glass, or closed) influences the atmosphere and the sense of space. Sometimes it makes a big difference whether you can see the folders openly or if everything is closed off—especially in more distracting environments.

I mainly use PAX in the office for document storage. Important: buy interior drawers for folders, so you can easily access your files. Sliding doors save space and work well in tight rooms.
