Hello everyone, I am planning to furnish a small office using the Ikea Platsa modular system, but the room is very limited in size, and I still need as much storage space and flexibility as possible. I’m particularly interested in how to optimize the Platsa system to make the best use of both work surfaces and storage. What combinations of modules, practical tips for accessories, or clever installation strategies do you know to make small offices functional and space-efficient with Platsa? I am especially interested in the possibilities for customization and expansion. Looking forward to your experiences and recommendations!

Basically, Ikea Platsa offers an ideal foundation for optimizing small offices due to its modular design. My recommendation is to first measure the room height precisely and preferably choose tall modules with doors to make efficient use of vertical storage space. It is also practical to use interior organizers such as drawers and shelves to keep the storage space structured and easily accessible. Another tip: by installing power strips in the lower modules, you can keep the work surface on the desk clear and discreetly connect electronic devices. Finally, I advise planning with the Ikea planner to include power outlets, light sources, and traffic flow.

I use Platsa in my small office like this: tall shelves instead of wide ones, drawers for organization, and no open compartments behind doors to keep it looking tidy. I also add casters under the units – this makes it flexible.

I can fully support the idea of using Platsa for small offices. It is especially useful that you can mix both closed and open elements, depending on how much access you need. I recommend focusing on vertical organization and ensuring the workspace has enough free area. Lighting and cable management should also not be overlooked. If desired, you can use special organizers in the drawers for writing utensils or small documents. Assembly requires a bit of patience, but the result justifies the effort.

In short: When space is limited, opt for vertical solutions, plan for drawers, and don’t forget free workspace. Power strips should be installed under the units to keep cables out of the way. That’s all you need for a functional small office.

I generally agree with that, but I wonder if relying too much on standard dimensions during planning might lead to inefficient use of space. Especially in small offices, I think it’s important to consider unconventional solutions, such as custom modifications or repurposing modules. Has anyone had experience modifying Platsa components themselves or combining them with other furniture?
