ᐅ Where can I find replacement parts for damaged IKEA BRIMNES drawers?

Hello everyone,

I have several BRIMNES dresser drawers from IKEA, where the drawer bottoms are badly damaged in some places, partly torn or sagging. My question is where I can get replacement parts specifically for the drawer bottoms or similar components like side panels or drawer runners for the BRIMNES model.

I have already contacted IKEA directly, and they told me they do not sell individual parts separately and only replace entire dressers. I find this neither sustainable nor cost-effective.

Does anyone know of alternative sources, such as third-party suppliers, specialized workshops, or proven repair methods?

Is it possibly an option to get original parts used or refurbished?

I look forward to any tips and experiences, as I would like to keep using the dressers without having to buy them completely new.

Thank you in advance!

One more question regarding the specific type of damage: Is it mainly cracks in the bottom panel, or missing guide elements? This would significantly affect the approach.

Thanks for asking! The bottom panels are mainly sagging and cracked at the edges. The side panels are intact, and the guides are still working well. So, it’s primarily the bottom that needs replacement.

The idea of cutting a matching MDF board sounds good, but I wonder if the standard decorative surfaces are really durable and visually compatible with Brimnes?

I don’t have the means for surface treatment, so keeping it as close to the original as possible would be important.

Hello ronmu55,

For replacing the drawer bottoms in BRIMNES, I recommend the following approach:

- IKEA does not officially sell individual drawer bottoms, but sometimes you can ask at a nearby service center if they have the bottom parts in stock.
- As an alternative, cut-to-size MDF or particleboard panels with melamine coating from a hardware store are advisable. There, you can have the panels cut precisely to size.
- Melamine-coated boards are durable, water-resistant, and visually close to the original design if you choose a matching color (usually white or light gray).
- A simple edge banding (usually applied to the board) improves moisture resistance and appearance; a hardware store can usually handle this as well.
- If you want to be truly original, picking up a complete bottom panel directly from IKEA might be the last option. However, this often means you’ll need to replace the entire drawer set.

My tip: Using melamine-coated boards is a cost-effective and quick solution. Their load capacity is sufficient for drawers.

If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

I also had doubts at first, but with a white melamine board from the hardware store, the result looked almost like the original! The surface is durable and easy to clean. Especially if you get a good cut and edge banding, it looks really neat.

Don’t worry about it. And if you want, you can further treat or paint the edges for extra protection. This way, you get a long-lasting repair that doesn’t look hastily put together.

Honestly, give it a try—those are often the coolest DIY successes! 🙂

That sounds plausible, but how reliable is the edge banding adhesion with heavy use in drawers?

I would also question whether the thickness and material of the self-cut shelves exactly match IKEA’s specifications. Small deviations can affect stability and drawer movement.

Keep in mind that special reinforcements or glued constructions in original BRIMNES parts may increase longevity.

That makes sense, but wouldn’t any DIYer without the proper tools quickly run into trouble here?

I wonder if the repair might cost more time and effort than getting a reasonably priced used replacement part.

Very good point! That’s why I’ve been looking for used original replacement parts, but so far haven’t found anything suitable.

The effort involved in a custom-cut bottom panel is certainly higher, that’s true. However, sustainability and avoiding new purchases are more important to me.

I will measure the dimensions of the panels and try to get melamine-coated boards, hoping that the appearance and stability will be acceptable.

Who among you has experience with used BRIMNES drawer components and their condition?

Alternatively: is it usually sufficient to just replace the bottom panel, or should the drawer slides also be checked or definitely replaced?
