Adelin66Hello everyone,
I am currently planning my kitchen layout using IKEA Metod and focusing on optimizing storage space in the base cabinets. My question to the community is: Which specific accessories from IKEA or third-party suppliers are particularly effective for making the most of the storage space in the Metod base cabinets?
I am especially interested in combinations of cutlery trays, pull-out drawers, dividers, and possibly height-adjustable elements to store various kitchen utensils in a space-saving and organized way.
What experiences have you had with shelves, organizer boxes, or other solutions to make the best use of vertical and horizontal space? Are there any helpful tips for efficiently outfitting corner cabinets or cabinets under the cooktop?
I look forward to your advice and any recommendations on what to consider during planning to avoid frustration later. Thanks in advance!

As an addition: While the IKEA VARIERA boxes are practical, I recommend using the Maximera full-extension drawers with the Metod system, as they have a higher load capacity and operate more smoothly.
- For deep base cabinets, divided cutlery trays or flexible inserts like the VARIERA set are suitable.
- Shelves with adjustable peg rows allow vertical customization of the storage space, which is especially useful for items of varying sizes.
- Corner cabinets in the Metod system can be well equipped with carousel units or Magic Corners, maximizing usable space.
When planning, it is essential to check measurements very carefully, as drawer heights are often limited and accessories are designed specifically for the cabinet depths and widths.

It is also important to measure the interior dimensions very precisely – especially with Metod, there can be slight tolerances. If you plan smartly, you can cleverly combine different depths using modular inserts.
One more critical point: many IKEA accessories take up part of the total cabinet depth, which can reduce storage space more than expected. So it’s best to test hands-on how this affects the actual volume.
Hello Adelin66,
I can share some insights from my own experience, as I recently outfitted my Metod kitchen completely with IKEA accessories.
- Cutlery inserts: VARIERA dividers are great for upper drawers. For larger kitchen tools, I recommend angled shelves to optimize the immediate area.
- Drawer inserts with multiple compartments help keep things organized and prevent “vegetable chaos.” There are also spice jar organizers designed to be placed on the drawer bottom.
- For corner base cabinets, I use a rotating carousel: it helps even small corners provide good storage space.
- Additionally: the Flexa shelf system, a module that allows you to insert adjustable intermediate shelves. It’s an investment but very useful if you want to organize different heights within a cabinet.
My tip: also use the space above the drawers by adding flat inserts or trays. This way, you can make the most of the drawer depth.
I hope this helps you!
