Hello everyone,

I’m planning to get an Ikea PAX wardrobe for my small bedroom, but I’m unsure which models are best suited for limited space.

My room is about 9 square meters (97 square feet) with a ceiling height of 2.40 meters (7 feet 10 inches). Efficient use of space is important to me because I don’t have much floor area, but I still need enough storage for clothes and accessories like shoes or bags.

I’ve heard there are different PAX options, for example with varying depths (35 cm (14 inches) or 58 cm (23 inches)), sliding doors or traditional hinged doors, which can affect how well they fit into small rooms.

Could you share your experience or expertise on which PAX models and configurations (such as height, width, doors, interior fittings) work best for small bedrooms? Which combinations save space, remain functional, and avoid making the room feel cluttered?

Thanks in advance for your tips and recommendations!

Hi,

for small bedrooms, I recommend the PAX depth of 35 cm (14 inches). This way, the wardrobe doesn’t extend too far into the room.

Sliding doors are also practical because they don’t require extra space to open.

Compact widths, for example 50 or 75 cm (20 or 30 inches), also help save space.

For clarification: The PAX series basically offers two main depths – 35 cm (14 inches) and 58 cm (23 inches).

- For small bedrooms, the 35 cm (14 inches) depth is recommended, as it takes up less room depth while still providing vertical storage space.
- Sliding doors are advantageous in small spaces because they significantly reduce the required clearance compared to hinged doors.
- Regarding width, I recommend modular combinations of several narrow units (e.g., 50 cm (20 inches) wide) instead of one wide wardrobe to remain more flexible.
- The height of 201 cm (79 inches) is ideal for rooms with 240 cm (94 inches) ceiling height; deeper models at 236 cm (93 inches) might overwhelm the space.

The interior fittings can be optimized with small adjustments: multiple shelves, drawers, and hanging organizers increase functionality.

In summary: PAX with 35 cm (14 inches) depth in several modules with sliding doors and a height of around 201 cm (79 inches), along with flexible interior fittings, offers the best combination of storage and space utilization in small bedrooms.

Hello beatriz56,

I’m happy to provide you with a more detailed guide on what to consider when choosing your PAX models:

1. Measure the room precisely: Make sure there is enough clearance next to the wardrobe. I recommend leaving at least 60 cm (24 inches) in front of the wardrobe so you can comfortably stand in front of it and use the doors or drawers.

2. Choose the depth: As mentioned, 35 cm (14 inches) depth is ideal for small rooms, allowing more space for movement. The 58 cm (23 inches) depth suits deeper rooms better.

3. Door types: Sliding doors avoid the problem of swinging doors in tight spaces. However, sliding doors usually reduce the usable interior space somewhat due to the guide rails. Make sure the internal layout still meets your needs.

4. Interior fittings: Plan the compartments so different types of clothing can be stored efficiently. For example, shelves for folded clothes, drawers for underwear or accessories, and hanging rails for garments.

5. Modular design: It’s better to place several smaller wardrobes side by side rather than one large unit. Individual modules offer more flexibility in layout and adjustment.

6. Color and material choices: Light colors make the room feel larger. Mirrors on the doors are also a good option to enhance the sense of space.

Summary:
- PAX with 35 cm (14 inches) depth
- Prefer sliding doors
- Maximum height 201 cm (79 inches) due to ceiling height
- Modular setup with several narrow units
- Customize interior fittings according to personal needs
- Light colors and mirrors help visually

If you like, I can also suggest some specific combinations.

Oh, I can definitely help you with that! The PAX systems are fantastic for small rooms! 😄

I have a 35cm (14 inch) deep wardrobe with sliding doors myself. It really saves a lot of space and keeps the room feeling open. Plus, the sliding doors with mirrors are ideal because they make the room look much bigger visually.

A tip: Always go for several smaller modules instead of one large one, so you can customize everything more flexibly to fit your belongings. For example, I have a combination with drawers, clothes rails at two heights, and shelves. This works great for shirts, sweaters, and shoes!

So: PAX 35cm (14 inch) depth + sliding doors + mirror front = small room WIN 🤗

That is true and important for small rooms. However, it should be noted that sliding doors are usually somewhat more expensive and can slightly reduce the usable interior space, depending on the sliding system used.

This is a sensible recommendation, as modularity not only improves adaptability but also offers advantages when moving or rearranging the room.

Additionally, a note: If the ceiling height allows, you can also choose the PAX system with a height of 236 cm (7 ft 9 in), but this often feels overwhelming in small rooms. 201 cm (6 ft 7 in) is usually the better choice.

Conclusion: For small bedrooms, a PAX system with a depth of 35 cm (14 inches), multiple narrow modules, sliding doors, and a height of about 201 cm (6 ft 7 in) is most suitable. Inside, it is best to use adjustable shelves, drawers, and hanging rails to make optimal use of the space.
