Hello,

We are planning to build a single-family house and the bathroom layout is causing us some headaches.
Number of people: 2 adults + 1 child (possibly 2 children in the future)
The shell dimensions of the bathroom on the upper floor are currently: 3.48 m x 3.66 m (11 ft 5 in x 12 ft)
The door is fixed. The window position is still flexible and can be adjusted.

We have currently created the following three designs.
One T-shaped solution and two other variants.

Personally, I prefer Variant 1. My partner prefers Variant 2.

Maybe you can provide feedback or have better ideas.

Requirements:
* Washbasin at least 120 cm (47 inches) wide
* Walk-in shower at least 90 cm (35 inches) wide (shower glass door will be installed)
* Ideally, the toilet should not be directly visible

The sanitary fixtures and furniture are only schematic.

Thanks a lot!

I don’t know where the problem is.

Most non-experts just don’t know that. However, you should listen to the more knowledgeable people and possibly pass on their advice.

or could still give me tips on the L-shaped solution, whether it’s spacious enough or if there might be any issues with the layout.

You can see it, and so can you. The access to the toilet is blocked here: when cleaning, or if a child or someone needing assistance requires help using the toilet, moving furniture is simply unavoidable.
And: The person standing at the washbasin will be in the way.
It’s just an ill-thought-out L-shaped solution, a layman’s design that has nothing appealing except blindly emulating a mainstream trend.

I like Hanghaus’s proposal the best. The bathtub is placed in the quietest corner. The washbasin is easily accessible, so you don’t disturb anyone and don’t get hit by a door in the back. The shower can remain doorless, which saves cleaning work.

In ypg’s proposal, I would swap the bathtub and the washbasin. I think the washbasin should be positioned at the front, since it is used most frequently.

I also like the slope house the best. I agree with Motorradsilke. However, YPG has fulfilled the wish for a less prominent toilet.

Hello,

It is important to me that at least one person can be at the washbasin while another is showering. This requirement is definitely met in the L-shaped layout and in option 2. Therefore, all solutions that simply install the sanitary fixtures along the walls are ruled out.

I would probably arrange it like this or something similar

In this solution, the bathtub must be rounded, otherwise the entrance would become too narrow. Personally, I don’t like the entrance to the bathroom here. In my opinion, the shower makes it feel too tight, and you end up walking straight toward a wall—even if it is only made of glass.

If nothing better comes up, I will go ahead with the following L-shaped layout:
With the known slight narrow spot at the shower now.

You have the problem that you absolutely want your L-shaped solution and actually want us to approve it. That didn’t happen because it simply isn’t good. For you, because you don’t understand: all proposals are bad.

Personally, I can accept if my proposal is not approved or if your inferior one is built. It’s not my bathroom after all.

But I think you have tunnel vision. You are emotionally attached to your design without being able to weigh processes and practicalities.

They would build the 80.5 (meters) for you, but—as I have also pointed out in arguments—it is not usable. The problem is probably also that you don’t make the effort to understand the reasons.

Do as you wish, I’m out of this.
