Hello everyone, some time ago I installed several IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets and now I’m wondering: How can I clean my IKEA Metod cabinets easily and effectively without damaging the surface or leaving unwanted residues? I am especially interested in which cleaning products work best, whether damp cloths or special cleaners are more suitable, and how to best handle fingerprints or light grease stains. It would also be great to know if there are any home remedies that are gentle yet effective. I appreciate any tips!

Doesn’t this sometimes change the appearance, or have you found it to be reliable over a longer period?I can only speak from my own experience: I use vinegar essence very sparingly and well diluted, only every few months. Usually, simple soapy water or dish detergent is sufficient for me. Your concerns about plastic sheeting are absolutely correct, so as LAYNE says: Never use it undiluted and always wipe again with clean water after cleaning! This way, the surface stays fresh and unchanged.
I think the recommended caution regarding vinegar and similar products is a bit exaggerated for home use. If you don’t apply those substances daily but only occasionally, nothing much will happen. The fear of surface damage seems overblown to me – these surfaces are designed for everyday use, so they should be able to handle some cleaning. Of course, if I had very expensive cabinet fronts, I might be more careful. But for Metod cabinet fronts, standard cleaners are all fine as long as you avoid harsh abrasives. Just stay relaxed!

I find all the recommended caution regarding vinegar and similar products a bit exaggerated for household use.I partially agree, but especially for surfaces with special film coatings, you really need to be careful. It’s not just about visual damage; aggressive chemicals can also make the material brittle over time. It’s better to start with milder cleaning agents and only use stronger ones for very stubborn stains – this approach helps to extend the overall lifespan of the cabinets.
The topic of cleaning IKEA Metod cabinets is important to me because I’m often unsure how much I can ‘test’ without damaging the cabinets. I appreciate that both cautious tips and realistic assessments are shared here. In the end, the best approach is probably to always test first in an inconspicuous area before cleaning larger surfaces. Besides the advice given: be patient and wipe more frequently with gentle cleaners rather than using harsh chemicals aggressively just once.
