Hello everyone,

I have an issue with my Kallax shelving unit from IKEA: After moving the entire unit slightly, the sliding doors no longer move smoothly and easily along their tracks.

The doors keep catching, sometimes bump lightly against the frame, and are no longer as easy to slide as before. It feels like the rollers are not guided properly or may be getting stuck.

Could this be caused by the tracks warping, or might it be a problem with the rollers themselves?

Has anyone experienced something similar? And what can be done to restore the doors’ smooth operation?

I look forward to your tips and suggestions!

Hello,

when sliding doors suddenly stop running smoothly, it is usually caused by a misalignment of the tracks. Especially after rearranging or moving the shelving, the tracks can bend slightly or the rollers can shift in their guides.

I recommend thoroughly checking the tracks for any deformations – often it is enough to completely loosen the tracks and carefully reinstall them to ensure everything is straight again.

Also check if hair, dust, or small debris have accumulated in the tracks or on the rollers, as this can also cause such problems.

Hey, I had the same problem with my Kallax!

After rearranging it, the doors started sticking for me too, which was really annoying. 🙂

What helped me a lot was thoroughly cleaning the rollers and tracks, then applying a little silicone spray to the sliding rails.

It feels great when the doors glide as smoothly as new again!

Give it a try, it might work for you too!

Misalignment of the sliding rails

Basically makes sense, but honestly: Kallax isn’t a high-end piece of furniture, and normally such rails should be more durable.

Maybe the problem is that the doors or the rollers themselves are of low quality and give way quickly under load.

Who rearranges a shelf and then expects that mechanical parts won’t suffer any damage? That’s just unrealistic.

I would say these issues are less about the furniture itself and more about improper use or rough handling.

Simple solution: Align the track. Check if the rollers rotate freely.

If the rollers are stuck, clean or replace them.

For problem analysis: If the Kallax doors do not slide smoothly after repositioning, the following causes are usually relevant:

1. Misalignment of the track: Small dents or deformations at the installation site of the track can obstruct the rollers.

2. Wear or twisting of the rollers: The small plastic wheels can twist under load or the axles may seize.

3. Installation angle: The shelving unit might be slightly tilted, causing the physical load of the doors to be unevenly distributed.

4. Dirt and debris: Dust, fibers, or crumbs in the track or on the rollers.

I recommend the following steps:
- Level the shelving unit horizontally, possibly using a spirit level.
- Remove the track completely and check for deformations.
- Rotate the rollers individually; if blocked, clean or replace them if necessary.
- Then reattach the track with minimal play and ensure it is evenly secured.

This increases the chance of restoring the original smooth sliding action.

I would like to know if the tracks have been thoroughly checked, if there are any noises when rolling, and how the shelving unit remains positioned after sliding.
