Hello everyone, I recently assembled some Ikea Brimnes furniture and noticed that while it looks appealing, the stability could be improved. Therefore, my question to you is: What specific techniques or tips would you recommend to make Brimnes furniture more stable? I’m not only thinking about carefully following the instructions but also additional measures such as reinforcements, using special tools, or modifications to the assembly process that help the furniture stand firmer and more securely. Are there any particular screws or adhesives that have proven effective? I look forward to your experiences and advice.

Hey jari69! Great question you asked! I’m very familiar with the Brimnes issue. For better stability, I make sure to assemble the furniture on a perfectly level surface – this is often underestimated! I also like to use a cordless drill with torque control to avoid over-tightening the screws, which keeps everything holding together better. One more tip: if possible, I always add small wood glue spots at the joints – this really provides extra holding power! It might sound like extra work, but it’s definitely worth it 😃

I want to emphasize the importance of the stability of the back panel. The Brimnes models are often secured only with a thin hardboard panel at the back, which limits stability. One option is to reinforce the back panel with additional angle brackets at the corners or to add a second back panel (e.g., plywood). It is also advisable to fix the furniture to the wall—this step is often recommended by Ikea and is essential for safety. Finally, using the correct screws and applying a consistent tightening torque helps to prevent twisting.

Tighten screws properly, not too tight, not too loose. Stabilize the back panel. Secure furniture to the wall. Usually, that’s all you need.

I think everyone knows this: You’ve finished assembling the furniture, but it still wobbles a little bit. 😅 For Brimnes, a simple trick often helps – instead of just using the included dowels, you can install rigid connectors or small metal brackets under the furniture that act like stiffened legs. This way, your furniture will stand rock solid. I also recommend, during assembly, to first tighten all screws lightly and only fully tighten them at the very end – this ensures everything fits together perfectly without warping the panels!

Great topic, I’ve been through the same situation! I highly recommend using mounting tape or thin foam rubber under the feet; this not only protects the floor but also reduces minor movements. And very important: Always align all parts precisely before fully tightening to avoid uneven stresses that can quickly lead to instability. Sometimes it also helps to insert small wooden wedges or shims under one side if the floor isn’t completely level. It really makes a difference!
