ᐅ Are there LED lighting systems specifically designed for Ikea Platsa units?

PeterbeHello everyone,
I am currently looking into lighting options for my Ikea Platsa cabinet system and wondering if there are LED systems specifically designed for this furniture series. It is important to me that the lights fit well mechanically and also match the typical living space atmosphere where Platsa is often used, in terms of color temperature and brightness.
Does anyone know of LED solutions made explicitly for or at least very compatible with Ikea Platsa? I am particularly interested in smart or easy-to-install options that don’t require major modifications and integrate smoothly into the shelving system.
I would appreciate it if you could share your experiences or recommendations, even if these involve alternative lighting options that you have successfully used.
Thanks in advance!

Hello Peterbe,
I find your question very practical! In fact, there is no official Ikea LED system specifically designed for Platsa, as you might know from the Metod kitchen system. However, some of Ikea's own LED strips, such as the Ledberg or Nordmärke LED spots, fit quite well when mounted on the inside of the Platsa modules.
- Make sure the power supply is flexible, as Platsa’s modular design often allows for different configurations.
- The color temperature of Ikea LEDs is usually around 2700 to 3000 Kelvin, providing warm white light suitable for a living room atmosphere.
If you prefer smart control, adapter solutions for Ikea Tradfri or other Zigbee-based systems might work, but you would need to install them yourself into the LED strips or spot housings.
Basically, Ikea does not offer custom-made Platsa LED systems, but with some DIY skills, you can fit certain models suitably.

The Platsa modules have quite specific internal and external dimensions, so lighting that is simply "screwed in" might create shadows or unpleasant reflections.
I would therefore look for LED systems that are specifically designed to work with the cabinet’s interior layout.
Another point: availability and documentation. Ikea itself does not offer specific lighting solutions for Platsa, so many recommendations are based on experience. A manufacturer offering modular LED strips in precise lengths with discreet clips would certainly be preferable to improvised solutions.
Has anyone actually found or tried such specialized products for Platsa?

I would therefore look for LED systems that explicitly harmonize with the interior layout of the cabinet. This can be summarized as follows:
- Officially, there are no Ikea LED systems designed specifically for Platsa.
- Ikea Ledberg and Nordmärke fit mechanically to some extent but are not specially adapted.
- Light distribution can remain problematic if the LED strips are installed too close to or too far from surfaces.
From a technical point of view, a LED strip with flexible mounting (e.g. magnets or screw clips) is often practical for Platsa. It is best to choose strips with 12 V and preferably dimmable.
The power supply should also remain separate and easily accessible, as Platsa modules are often rearranged and require adjustments to the wiring.
If you are interested in smart functions, I recommend combining with Zigbee or Wi-Fi controllers that allow external control and grouping.
In short: custom DIY lighting solutions overall are more efficient than a specific LED system, which does not officially exist.

My goal is to create a discreet but effective lighting setup that requires minimal effort for installation and maintenance.
It’s also important to me that the solution remains stable over time, meaning power cables and strips won’t get damaged quickly through handling the modules.
Are there any experiences or tips on which commonly available LED strips work particularly well for this? Or methods for routing cables neatly and securely inside the Platsa modules?
Would you recommend 12 V or 24 V systems? And how do you manage the power supply with variable module arrangements?

Use connectors for connections, as this makes modifications easier.
Power supply should be provided by a power adapter with sufficient capacity located outside the cabinet. Hide the wiring on the back of the furniture piece.
