I’m about to get the Ikea Platsa system, but I have little experience with assembling furniture in general—especially with modular systems like Platsa. So I wanted to ask the community: Is there an assembly guide specifically designed for beginners for Ikea Platsa?
I’m mainly interested in whether Ikea or any third parties provide instructions that go beyond the standard paper manual and offer a step-by-step approach that makes assembly easier even for complete novices. At Ikea, I’ve only seen the usual, fairly minimalist exploded diagrams, which make sense for those with more experience but can be confusing for beginners.
Does anyone know of any tips, tricks, or even a kind of “beginner mode” in the existing instructions? If there are tutorials or videos that explain the assembly in more detail and more clearly, I would appreciate any recommendations.
Looking forward to your thoughts and whether you have any experience with Platsa that you would recommend for beginners.

There is no specific manual from Ikea for beginners. The assembly instructions are generally always the same – minimalist illustrations and step-by-step drawings.
For beginners, I recommend sorting all parts first and carefully following the instructions section by section. For those who prefer videos, there are many assembly guides available on YouTube that are often easier to understand.

"Is there an assembly guide specifically for beginners for Ikea PLATSA?"
To add: Ikea follows the standard approach with the PLATSA series, which is actually not aimed at complete beginners with no basic knowledge. The included assembly instructions assume familiarity with common steps such as inserting dowels and driving screws.
As far as I know, there is no separate "beginner’s guide." However, I recommend the following:
- Check out Ikea’s website, where animated 3D views of the assembly process are often available.
- Some Ikea forums and user videos offer different perspectives and can be especially helpful.
- Before starting assembly, have all the tools ready and prepare a clean, sufficiently large workspace.
The system is modular and well designed, but the instructions are really intended for those with some DIY experience. For beginners, I strongly suggest supplementing with assembly videos or, if possible, getting help from someone with a bit of experience.

Well, I find the question interesting because it highlights the general issue with Ikea furniture.
The answer is basically no, because Ikea deliberately provides minimalist, standardized instructions to save costs and avoid overwhelming customers with text. The system of pictograms is essentially considered a “universal language.” So why would Ikea create a separate manual just for beginners?
I actually believe these minimalist instructions are not a disadvantage. They encourage you to engage with the furniture and develop an understanding of the assembly process. Many beginners tend to overestimate the value of a “beginner’s version” – some practical skills are simply necessary.
If you, Dranicklas, or anyone else here really needs support, I would suggest a practical approach instead:
- Break the project down into small steps.
- Take your time, don’t rush.
- Get help if the manual alone isn’t enough.
In my opinion, the idea of providing a manual exclusively for beginners is a myth. Anyone starting completely from scratch will eventually need to turn to additional resources like videos or forums, and that’s part of the learning process.
