Hello everyone,

I am currently facing the challenge of planning my small kitchen using Ikea METOD cabinets and making the most efficient use of the limited space. I am especially interested in how to combine the different cabinet types – from base cabinets to wall cabinets and corner solutions – in a way that maximizes storage while keeping the work surface practical.

Since space is really tight, I would like to know if there are any proven principles or planning tips to optimize this space, for example with special interior fittings or storage systems within the METOD units. Also, are there any assembly tips to ensure a stable and durable cabinet despite the limited area?

I would appreciate any experiences, recommendations for planning tools, or advice on compatible accessories.

Best regards

Here is my tip: In small kitchens, it is important to make the most of vertical space. Plan wall cabinets to reach as close to the ceiling as possible – this increases storage without using floor area. Corner cabinets with rotating carousels or pull-out solutions are extremely helpful for efficiently utilizing dead corners.

The METOD series offers various interior fittings, such as pull-out drawers or shelves, which help organize the cabinet space better. Use narrow, tall cabinets in free wall areas as pantry cupboards or for appliances.

Regarding installation: Make sure to securely fasten the cabinets to the wall. Small kitchens often face heavier strain, so it’s better to focus carefully on stability – and always use a spirit level to ensure everything is perfectly straight.

Efficient planning of METOD cabinets for small kitchens requires precise measurements and a thorough analysis of the space. Generally, I recommend:
- Using tall cabinets for large appliances and pantry storage
- Corner solutions like the "Magic Corner" or "L-shaped pull-outs" to access otherwise hard-to-reach areas
- Preferably using drawers in base cabinets, as they organize storage more clearly than traditional doors
- Flexible interior fittings such as cutlery trays, spice racks, or adjustable shelves

During installation: Check electrical outlets, water connections, and any wall irregularities before assembly. Wall unevenness can slightly compromise the frame stability of METOD systems. Proper fastening with sturdy anchors is essential.

The IKEA planning tool combined with professional measuring is helpful, but nothing replaces precise on-site verification.

Wow, what an exciting topic! I designed my small kitchen entirely using METOD, and I can honestly say the creative process was a lot of fun! I really made use of every corner and incorporated pull-out cabinets, which makes access so much easier.

My advice: take your time during assembly and don’t let yourself get stressed. It’s definitely worth aligning the cabinets very carefully because everything works much better, and you won’t have problems with doors or drawers later on.

Especially in small spaces, vertical solutions are invaluable – I installed a row of wall cabinets all the way up to the ceiling, and it completely improved the sense of space. Simply fantastic!

Don’t get discouraged; it’s really enjoyable! 🙂

Exactly! Corner solutions are like little heroes in any small kitchen! 😎 When you use the corner cleverly, you easily gain the storage space equivalent to at least one entire cabinet.

Here’s an additional tip from me: if possible, design the kitchen countertop in an L- or U-shape. This way, you can create a practical workspace in the corner with minimal effort and at the same time install wall cabinets with clever interior fittings. And of course, don’t forget lighting under the wall cabinets! It makes working much easier, especially in small kitchens.

Not to forget, especially with IKEA METOD, you can customize almost everything, so don’t hesitate to try creative combinations! 😄 Good luck with your build!
