For me, it’s spam, especially when I select the option to follow threads without email notifications.
That didn’t work at all in December. However, I do want to be notified about followed threads here on the forum. This works with all apps and forums for me, but here my account receives no notification.
I also find emails on every topic to be inconvenient, but for those who want them, it should be possible to enable.

- Marking threads in the "New Posts" overview where you have already posted yourself (this was available in the old software)
- When you are quoted or directly mentioned with @Username, a notification in the profile display at the top right with a list of the relevant threads… here is an example from another forum. Two notifications, the first one shown (the others are then in a list, with older viewed ones following)

However, a feedback section in the forum would also be useful. One place for error reports, possibly supplemented by additional comments from other users. The webmaster/admin can take care of it and provide feedback through such a thread. That’s how I am familiar with troubleshooting.
