Hello everyone, I recently bought a Kallax cabinet and carried it into the attic through my roof hatch. I noticed that after unpacking it, some parts are missing that I urgently need for assembly. My question is: Is it possible to order missing parts from IKEA if the Kallax was transported this way, or is returning it to the store the only option? Has anyone had experience with a similar situation, especially if the delivery came directly from IKEA or a retailer but the transport was done through the roof hatch? Are there any official guidelines or advice on how to easily reorder missing parts? Thanks in advance for your tips!

Hey eriklu, it’s great that you’re asking here! Yes, I’ve experienced missing parts during delivery before. The company is usually very accommodating! Just contact customer service directly with your order number and a detailed list of the missing parts (which is usually found in the assembly instructions). They often send replacements free of charge, especially for hardware like fittings or screws. 🙂 Important: don’t lose your receipt! Good luck, you’ve got this 🙂

Hello Eriklu,

We should clarify a few details so I can assist you better. First: Was your Kallax still in its original packaging when you lifted it through the roof hatch? If yes, the chances of missing parts are smaller since IKEA designs their packaging to be very sturdy.

However, if the packaging was open or damaged, some parts might have been lost. IKEA actually offers a so-called “replacement parts service” (usually available through customer service or online), which allows you to reorder missing screws, back panels, or small components. It’s worth carefully reviewing the manual and identifying the exact parts you need.

Another tip: Make sure to check whether all item lists on the delivery note match. Sometimes it also helps to have the serial number or order details ready when contacting IKEA’s replacement parts service.

How exactly did the transport take place? Did you check the parts at a handover point? Was the Kallax already assembled, or did you transport it empty? These details can affect the next steps.

Let us know what the current situation is!

I can completely understand how frustrating it is to have missing parts, especially when you’re looking forward to assembling everything. I’ve had a similar situation myself when screws were missing. The important thing is not to worry too much—companies like IKEA are usually very accommodating.

I also think there is sometimes little understanding of such transport issues, especially when working in an unusual way, like through a roof hatch. Could you maybe briefly explain how you proceeded there? Perhaps we can find a solution that minimizes your effort.

Yes, it is generally possible and common to reorder missing parts from IKEA, regardless of the method of transport. IKEA offers a spare parts service that can be accessed through their website, customer service, or directly at the store.

It is important to provide precise information about the product, version, and the missing components. The assembly instructions with exploded diagrams are usually helpful for identifying the parts.

Transporting the item through a roof hatch does not affect the ability to reorder parts, as long as the missing parts can be verified and the issue was not caused by external damage.

I recommend having documentation and the purchase receipt ready and contacting IKEA early on.

Same here! But as I said, just get in touch—flat-pack companies like IKEA are really great with this! 🙂

One more tip: sometimes the parts are hidden in small bags. I missed that at first, too. It can help to check the packaging very carefully before ordering replacements.

Don’t get discouraged, it will all work out! Good luck!
