Hello everyone,

I recently designed a kitchen using the Ikea Metod system. The drawers generally work well, but I’ve noticed that they are quite noisy when opening and closing. Especially in the morning, when you want to use them quietly, this can be really annoying.

I’m wondering what effective measures can be taken to make the Metod system drawers quieter. Are there specific dampers or other tricks to reduce the noise when closing or sliding the drawers?

I’m interested in both DIY solutions and recommendations for compatible accessories or products.

Maybe someone has experience with the Metod system or knows good alternatives for soundproofing these drawers.

Thank you in advance!

Hello,

I would first clean the drawer slides and lightly oil them. Sometimes the issue is just dust or dryness.

Additionally, you can install cushioning pads on the inside of the drawer to soften the impact when closing.

If your drawers do not have a soft-close feature, you can buy retrofit dampers. These are often simply installed at the back of the drawer slides and significantly reduce noise.

Thanks, I’ve already done that, but unfortunately, it didn’t make much of a difference.

That’s exactly the problem. I do have Metod drawers, but unfortunately without soft-close.

I also wanted to ask if anyone has experience with replacing the original slides with better ones to achieve smoother operation. Or what should be considered when choosing replacement slides?

I had the same issue with Metod drawers without soft-close.

I simply retrofitted soft-close fittings from Ikea, which can be easily mounted onto the existing rails.

This significantly reduced the noise, and the closing feels much more high-quality.

Could you please specify which models or item numbers these are?

Are there different versions for the Metod drawer thicknesses? And is the installation complicated?

I want to avoid buying unnecessary parts that don’t fit.
