Hello everyone, I am currently planning the renovation of my small kitchen and have chosen the Ikea Metod system. Since the kitchen is really quite compact, I am wondering how to assemble the cabinets and fronts in the most space-saving and efficient way possible. Are there proven sequences, measuring tips, or handling tricks for the individual components that make assembly easier, especially in small rooms? I am also interested in advice on dealing with corners and low ceilings, as well as how to best utilize the available storage space without restricting movement. I look forward to your tips and experiences because with this well-designed system, I want to avoid unnecessary effort and complete the installation as smoothly as possible.

That’s a very good question. When space is limited, installation can really be frustrating. What I always recommend is unpacking everything first and sorting it in the order you will install – this avoids constant back-and-forth. I used to find the corners especially difficult, but with proper planning (for example, I mark wall measurements and use floor plans) you can manage it.

For small kitchens, it’s also important to be familiar with the cabinet system’s dimensions to avoid unnecessary modifications. Sometimes it’s better to attach the wall panels only after all cabinets are mounted and stable; this saves rework.

And don’t hesitate to have two people—installing the system alone is almost impossible to do properly, especially considering the size of the cabinets in small spaces.

I’m curious to hear how your installation goes!

To optimize the installation of Ikea Metod cabinets in small kitchens, I recommend a precise step-by-step plan that includes the following points:

- Take exact measurements of the room in advance, including all projections and irregularities
- Create a sketch of the kitchen wall to accurately determine mounting points
- Assemble the cabinets without doors initially to simplify adjustments
- Install corner cabinets first, as they often present the greatest challenges
- Use installation aids such as a spirit level and drilling template
- Work in pairs: one person holds and aligns while the other screws in

It is also important to make full use of the rendering options available in the Ikea planning software to identify the optimal cabinet configuration beforehand. This helps avoid rework later, which can be especially troublesome in small, tight kitchens.

Absolutely! Sometimes you think, "it’ll somehow fit," and then you’re stuck on your tiny space wondering where to put the cabinet without constantly struggling with uneven surfaces all day long 😅.

A little tip: be patient during installation and take breaks, especially if you’re working alone. And maybe attach the fronts last so you can slide them more easily when making adjustments.

Small kitchens can be tricky, but with Metod you can really create clever storage solutions – I love the drawers and corner carousels, super practical!

I would like to add that in small kitchens, space is important not only when mounting cabinets but also for tools. It is best to work with compact tools and prepare all holes and anchors in advance.

First install cabinets without doors to make adjustment easier

This matches my experience, especially in small kitchens where the visual impression changes a lot once the doors are attached. I also recommend assembling the cabinets with a helper, mounting them parallel to the walls, and only screwing together individual units once they are perfectly level and aligned.

This prevents later adjustments, which are often difficult in tight spaces.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to share my excitement: Installing Metod in my small kitchen was a challenge at first, but with good organization, it’s really enjoyable! 😊

What I find important:
- Never rush!
- Make sure you have enough light and a stable surface for the cabinets
- Plan your schedule so you allow two full days without stress

And if you get stuck: Just take a deep breath and double-check all measurements—that makes all the difference! For me, cutting out some extra small filler panels saved the day, since sometimes the wall isn’t perfectly straight after all.

So: Stick with it and laugh at the chaos—it will turn into a great new kitchen in the end!
