I plan to assemble an IKEA Platsa wardrobe system in my room on a carpeted floor. My specific question is: How can I securely and stably install the Platsa furniture on a soft carpet without it wobbling or becoming unstable over time? I want to prevent the furniture from slipping or tipping over since the carpet is relatively thick and soft. Are there any special techniques, underlay materials, or installation methods you would recommend? Also, I would appreciate tips on how to best level or align the Platsa if some feet sink into the carpet. Thanks in advance for your help!

I completely understand your concern; stability is indeed an issue with carpeted floors. I had a similar experience when assembling my Platsa.
A good solution that worked for me was to first place a sturdy base under the cabinet, such as thin plywood or solid MDF, which you can cut precisely to the dimensions of the Platsa.
This helps distribute the weight more evenly and prevents the cabinet from sinking directly into the carpet. It also helps reduce slipping. If you want to secure the cabinet further, you can also put special anti-slip mats underneath.
I personally also secured my Platsa against tipping with wall mounts that IKEA provides, which is especially important on soft floors.
Don’t hesitate to try it out—things usually work better than you expect!

I really like your plan! Carpet and furniture – you definitely don’t want to end up playing stuntman if it wobbles 😄. My secret tip for placing Platsa units on carpet is a combination of the following:
- Baseboard (as mentioned, MDF or OSB, about 12mm (1/2 inch) thick)
- Anti-slip mats underneath (like the ones normally placed under carpets)
- Then, place the standard Platsa legs on top of rubber rings or felt pads to prevent the legs from sinking into the carpet
Don’t forget to secure the whole thing to the wall – Platsa is sturdy, but carpet makes it trickier.

- Cut a stable, not too thick wooden base (e.g., MDF or plywood) to fit precisely.
- Place anti-slip material between the wooden base and the carpet or directly under the feet.
- Use the IKEA wall fasteners provided, as the risk of tipping increases on carpets.
- If needed, stabilize and level the feet with washers or felt pads.
- After installation, regularly inspect and adjust if necessary.

I also recommend securing the Platsa to the wall using the supplied wall anchors—especially since carpet is flexible and can transmit more movement.
As an alternative, depending on the carpet thickness, you could remove the carpet underneath the cabinet and place a wooden board directly on the hard floor. This prevents slipping and eliminates the unevenness caused by the carpet.
If the carpet is very thick, the board should not be thicker than 12 mm (0.5 inches) so the cabinet does not sit too high and still fits snugly against the wall.
