Hello everyone,
I am planning to install new doors on my Billy bookshelf and want to make sure the doors close as quietly as possible. That means the doors should close smoothly without loud noises, clicks, or bangs. I’ve heard that special hinges or dampers can be used for this, but I’m not sure which solutions work best.
The doors need to fit well, and the installation should be as straightforward as possible. Do you have any experience with suitable hinges, dampers, or other accessories to make the Billy bookshelf as quiet as possible? Tips, specific product recommendations, or installation advice would be greatly appreciated!
Looking forward to your suggestions.

I’m interested in how you technically solved the installation. Thanks for your previous answers!
I actually have a set of standard Billy wooden doors here and would like to install them as quietly as possible without completely modifying the doors or buying new ones. Replacing or modifying the hinge holes is basically possible but would be quite labor-intensive.
Therefore, I am mainly interested in solutions that fit my existing doors and can be installed with minimal effort. Whether these are soft-close hinges, dampers on the inside of the doors, on the shelving unit frame, or combinations of these is still open.
Who is familiar with specific soft-close hinges or other damping elements that can be mounted on the Billy shelving unit without extensive door modifications? Installation instructions and tips on potential issues during adaptation are also welcome.

Does anyone know about soft-close hinges or other damping devices that can be installed on the Billy bookshelf doors without major modifications? For the original Billy doors, IKEA offers ready-made soft-close hinge kits (e.g., item number 202.285.87) that simply replace the standard Billy hinges. These are specifically designed to fit the door drillings and are relatively easy to install.
Alternatively, you can use so-called "surface-mounted dampers"—small damping elements that are screwed or glued onto the inside of the door or the bookshelf frame. These effectively reduce the slamming noise.
By combining the original Billy hinges with surface-mounted dampers, you can often achieve a very quiet closing without completely rebuilding the doors.
I have done this myself, and it works very well! Of course, proper adjustment is key.
