Hello everyone, I am currently planning to equip my kitchen with IKEA Metod tall cabinets and want to use the available storage space as efficiently as possible. My specific question is: How can I optimize the storage layout in IKEA Metod tall cabinets with a lot of storage capacity, so that I can store both large and small kitchen items in an organized way? I am especially interested in which internal fittings or organizational aids, such as shelves, pull-out trays, or drawer inserts, are most effective to make the best use of the space while ensuring quick access to frequently used items. If anyone has experience combining pull-outs and traditional shelves in wide tall cabinets, I would appreciate tips on the best layout and how to avoid unnecessary space loss.

A common mistake is installing too many fixed shelves that aren’t ideally suited to the actual items.

I can only confirm that. At first, I was overwhelmed and installed too many fixed shelves, which made the storage space inflexible. Now, I feel much more confident using adjustable shelves and pull-outs. This has made my kitchen much more functional and enjoyable.

This is a common beginner’s mistake. Additionally, it should be noted that the maximum load capacity of shelves in IKEA Metod cabinets is usually around 15 kg (33 lbs). Therefore, for heavy items, using full-extension drawers is definitely recommended.

In summary, a combination of adjustable shelves for flexible intermediate storage and sturdy drawers to support heavy loads offers the best solution.

Hey, another tip from me: Try using the IKEA VARIERA boxes and inserts in your drawers! They are really practical and help keep things organized, especially for small kitchen tools. There are also special antibacterial inserts for hygienic storage. Just tidying up is a lot more enjoyable when everything is sorted like that.

Thank you for the tips and detailed explanations so far! I find the advice on combining adjustable shelves and pull-outs with drawer inserts especially helpful. I will also pay attention to the load capacity and plan the middle sections for medium-sized kitchen appliances. One last question: Does anyone have experience with integrating soft-close inner drawers in the tall Metod cabinets? I ask because I’m concerned that the taller cabinets might be too noisy without soft-closing, or that the drawers could wear out more quickly.

Yes, from my own experience, I can confirm that the soft-close feature for internal drawers is highly recommended, especially in tall cabinets. It prevents loud slamming, which protects the material over time. Additionally, the damping mechanism ensures smooth and controlled closing, enhancing ease of use. However, precise adjustment during installation is necessary to guarantee flawless operation.
