Hello everyone,
I recently bought a Kallax shelving unit from Ikea and now want to install doors on it. I noticed that when opening or closing the doors, they unfortunately scrape along the floor at the bottom edge. This happens even when I try to carefully adjust the hinges, but I’m not really sure how to fine-tune the doors so they hang level and don’t drag on the floor.
Does anyone have experience with properly adjusting Kallax doors to prevent them from scraping the floor? Are there any specific tips or tricks to watch out for? And especially: which screws or adjustment options should be used to raise the door panel slightly without damaging the hardware?
I look forward to your help!

Hello Wahid,
I can understand the problem well, as this often happens with Kallax doors since the hinges are relatively simple in design and the doors usually need a bit of clearance to fit properly.
The most important thing is to be familiar with the built-in adjustment options on the hinge. Kallax doors typically use 35mm (1.4 inch) combination hinges that have three screws for adjustment: one for lateral alignment (left/right), one for depth (in/out), and one for height (up/down).
In your case, where the door is scraping on the floor, the screw for vertical adjustment is crucial. This is often the rear screw on the hinge. You should turn it slowly and carefully—clockwise raises the door, counterclockwise lowers it.
It is helpful to open the door, adjust the screw slightly, then gently close the door to check if the scraping has stopped. Repeat this process several times.
Additionally, it is worth inspecting the floor covering itself. Sometimes attaching small felt pads to the bottom edge of the door can help if adjustment alone is not enough.
One more question: Are the doors mounted directly to the Kallax unit, or are you using an additional frame structure? That could slightly change the situation.
I hope this helps you!

That’s great that you want to customize the Kallax so individually! 🙂
I had the same issue with the door rubbing, and I did exactly this: I slightly adjusted the screws on the hinge with a screwdriver. When you loosen the screws a bit, the door lifts slightly and stays clear of the floor.
That really worked well for me! Just turn it half a turn, close the door, check, and repeat. It’s very simple and you don’t have to do any major modifications!
Good luck, it will definitely work! 🙂

Does anyone here have experience with properly adjusting Kallax doors to prevent them from scraping the floor?Just as an additional note: Be sure not to loosen or overtighten the hinges too much during adjustment, as this can reduce their stability and cause the doors to sag. There is a limit to how much height adjustment is possible, usually about 2-3 mm (0.08-0.12 inches).
With very thick flooring (carpet, high pile), doors tend to scrape more easily. In such cases, placing shims under the runners or adding small plastic feet to the door edge can help.
If you have already mounted the doors with screws at the top of the frame, readjusting may be a bit more complicated since the hinges on the Kallax back panel are somewhat flexible anyway. It’s worth checking whether the screws are fully tightened and flush.
If the problem persists, feel free to let us know—we’ll definitely find a solution!
