Hello everyone,

I recently bought a Kallax shelving unit and ordered matching doors for it. After installation, I noticed that the doors are significantly too short in height – they don’t close flush and leave an unattractive gap of about 2 cm (0.8 inches) at the top. I have already measured everything precisely and compared it with the specified dimensions.

My question to you: Has anyone had a similar experience and successfully filed a complaint with IKEA? How exactly did you proceed, and what helped you get a replacement?

I would appreciate any advice on the best way to handle this, especially since the doors are practically unusable as they are. Thanks in advance!

Hey reokin,

such a door issue can really be frustrating – the Kallax shelf and the doors are supposed to fit perfectly together. 🙂

I had a similar problem some time ago, but IKEA immediately sent a replacement after I contacted their customer service. It’s important to have clear photos ready (even if they asked you not to send any, it’s good to have them on hand internally) and the measurement record, so they can understand your case.

Sometimes parts are mislabeled in the warehouse or there was a production deviation. So stay calm and polite, ask for a replacement, and if necessary, mention your consumer protection rights.

Good luck! 🙂

Complaints to IKEA about incorrect measurements have always worked for me. Just go directly to customer service, provide proof of the measurements, and request a replacement. No drama.

Hello reokin,

I also recommend that you provide the exact order number and purchase date when filing a claim for Kallax doors. It often helps to get written confirmation via email from customer service so that the claim can be properly tracked.

If a replacement is not possible, some Ikea stores may offer a discount or accept a return. However, this depends on the individual case.

I hope your issue is resolved quickly!

That seems very likely to me as well. I have checked the measurements in several places – definitely too short, which is also obvious when compared to the other doors in the furniture store.

How exactly did you communicate with customer service? By phone or directly in the store? I ask because I have been on hold on the phone for a long time, and now I’m considering whether a direct visit to the Ikea store might be more effective.

Hey, I would definitely recommend going directly to the IKEA store if possible. Sometimes in-person contact is simply more effective for complaints, and you can show the doors right away. The staff can then offer a solution on the spot—ideally a replacement or, if necessary, a return.

By phone, it’s often a bit more difficult, and I’m all too familiar with the waiting times on hold.

A small tip: stay friendly but firm, and mention that the doors do not technically meet the specified dimensions. That often helps speed up the process. Good luck! :-)
