I am currently looking into lighting options for my Ikea Besta sideboard and searching for LED solutions that fit well both visually and functionally. It is important to me that the lighting is not only attractive but also practical for everyday use, such as being easy to install, providing good light distribution, and preferably offering dimmable options.

The Besta system has a relatively simple and modern design, so I am looking for LEDs that complement this style without being too overpowering. It would also be ideal if the LEDs match the color of the white or dark cabinet options Ikea offers and integrate seamlessly into the overall look.

Perhaps someone here has experience with specific brands, LED strips, or spotlights that are suitable for Besta or that you have installed yourselves? Tips on power supply options, like USB power or adapters, as well as practical aspects such as heat generation or light color, would also be very helpful.

Good idea to approach the topic specifically! In general, individual LED spotlights or slim LED strips work very well with Besta, as they do not disrupt the minimalist style.

I would recommend using LED strips with warm white light, around 2700 to 3000 Kelvin, which creates a cozy atmosphere and complements the wood or lacquer finish of the Besta perfectly. The slim strips can easily be glued inside under the shelves, distributing the light evenly.

For installation: Most strips have a self-adhesive backing, but it helps to clean the surface first with an alcohol wipe. For higher quality solutions, there are also aluminum track systems available that improve cooling and protect the strips.

Regarding power supply, a 12V power adapter is common. If you want dimming capability, make sure the dimmer is compatible with both the power supply and the LEDs. Some affordable kits include this feature directly.

If you prefer color changing, RGB variants are also an option, but often this is too flashy for the Besta and distracts from its clean design.

I hope this helps as an initial guideline!

I would like to add a brief guide here that can be helpful when selecting and installing LED lighting for Ikea Besta, especially when functionality is a priority.

- Introduction: Besta offers an excellent foundation for various lighting solutions due to its modular design.

- Step 1: Choosing the type of LED
LED strips are the most flexible option because their length can be adjusted and they are hardly noticeable inside cabinets. For targeted lighting, spot LEDs are better suited and can be mounted on or inside the cabinet frame.

- Step 2: Light color and brightness
The color temperature is important – warm white (2700-3000K) provides a cozy atmosphere, while neutral white (around 4000K) looks more functional and cooler, suitable for work areas.
Brightness should not be too strong; about 300-400 lumens per meter (3.3 feet) for strips is usually sufficient.

- Step 3: Installation
Clean the adhesive surfaces thoroughly. Pay attention to the polarity of the strips, especially when connecting multiple segments.
A 12V power supply is standard; for USB-powered solutions, the power source usually limits the maximum length and brightness.

- Step 4: Control
Simple on/off switches or dimmers are often enough. For more convenience, smart LED systems integrated into the home network are also an option.

- Summary:
Just make sure the power supply, dimmer, and LEDs are compatible. Otherwise, Besta offers many possibilities to create storage spaces that are both practical and visually appealing.

Common mistakes I often see: sticking LEDs without proper cleaning, using the wrong power supplies, or choosing LEDs that are too bright and cause glare.

Absolutely right! I have a Besta shelf myself and use LEDs with warm white light – it creates an incredibly cozy atmosphere!

Installing self-adhesive LED strips was super easy, and the light color can be dimmed very smoothly.

Also a tip: if you place the LEDs inside, they look much more elegant because the light is reflected indirectly – it looks really professional!

It’s simply fun to enhance the Besta with LEDs, give it a try and you’ll be impressed! 🙂
